Publisher's summary

As an agent of Supernatural Protection & Investigations (SPI), I know that evil doesn’t take a vacation, but this time it made an exception and followed me on mine. I’m Makenna Fraser, seer for SPI, and I’m taking my boyfriend, goblin dark mage Rake Danescu, home for the holidays to meet my family.

Weird Sisters is a small town in the North Carolina mountains that was built on a network of ley lines that magnify psychic and paranormal energies. It doesn’t show up on Google Maps, was named after the three witches in Macbeth, and the first word of the town name perfectly describes most of its human and supernatural citizens. A stranger has come to town, bringing with him a dormant source of primordial evil. Soon, magically gifted locals start vanishing, and the power of the ley lines is turned against us, cutting us off from the outside world and any source of help.

For a town and its people steeped in magic, and my family sworn to protect both, it’s a race against time to use a local winter solstice phenomenon to free the town from its prison. But first, I must trust a father I’ve never known to fight and defeat an awakening evil that’s existed since the beginning of time. If we fail, and it is unleashed, the world will not survive.

Lisa is driving me to start reading again!6

I love the SPI books and listen to them quite often, but I couldn't even make it through half this book. I understand that there is difficulties in self publishing and I admire Lisa for giving her fans an audiobook, but her talents do not lie in narration. she basically reads the book at you. poor pacing, no difference between character voices, it all just kind of runs together. I really hate to leave this review but a change has to be made. I will be returning this audiobook and I will buy it in print. I will find the time to read it because I really do enjoy her writing, but I can't listen anymore.

Please return to previous narrator

Once again, I love the story and the characters, but the story lost something special by changing narrators. Many times I could not detect when the characters changed. Please take this with all love and support, while you do a great job of bringing a story to life on the page, you lost so much magic by narrating the story yourself. Please reconsider.

Sad Narration

Merely reading the words is not narrating the story. I love the SPI Files novels and have all of them. Until this recorded novel, Audible has provided wonderful narration. This recording missed the mark.

Wonderful to finally get this in audio book!

Ms Shearin narrated this herself and I commend her attempt. However, I found it difficult to distinguish between characters as they all seemed to have her lovely Carolina accent. Her facebook posts have spoken of all the work she & her husband put into this, and I feel badly being negative, but perhaps hiring someone to do the male voices or going back to using a professional narrator would be best. Or at least taking some voice lessons to learn the tricks of creating different voices and accents. I love Ms Shearin’s books, especially the SPI novels, and can’t wait for the next one… both in text and audio.

One of my favorite series!

I love this series! Lisa Shearin is a fabulous storyteller. Creating a wonderfully intricate world. I wish Johanna Parker had narrated this latest book through. Her voices are what brings the audio book to life.

Narration poor

I have listened to this entire series, but the author has recently decided to start narrating her own books. Her skill set is in writing, not narrating. Please return to Johanna Parker
