Really good writing
Reviewed: 11-30-24
I’ll listen to 1 million audiobooks and podcasts per year and thought although I never ever read fiction and especially not science fiction or fantasy. I was like let me try something for Christmas. Something that I could quickly pick and not have to read through the publishers notes to find out if it was worth buying or not. I just went for it on this one and I love the whole series front to back. These quick little mysteries are typically usually a surprise. The writing is good. And the writer has a way of making you like many of the characters. It’s a cute Christmas series. I recommend it!

Patric Gagne realized she made others uncomfortable before she started kindergarten. Something about her caused people to react in a way she didn’t understand. She suspected it was because she didn’t feel things the way other kids did. Emotions like fear, guilt, and empathy eluded her. For the most part, she felt nothing. And she didn’t like the way that “nothing” felt.

Story
Aged just seven, Suzanne Heywood set sail with her parents and brother on a three-year voyage around the world. What followed turned instead into a decade-long way of life, through storms, shipwrecks, reefs and isolation, with little formal schooling. No one else knew where they were most of the time and no state showed any interest in what was happening to the children. Suzanne fought her parents, longing to return to England and to education and stability. This memoir covers her astonishing upbringing.

Her spirit
Reviewed: 03-05-24
I love the rawness and the realness of the story. It’s very hard to believe someone grew up on a boat. Am so proud of Suzanne‘s tenacity at getting into university. And I’m so proud of her for loving herself in spite of the meanness she saw from her mother. I wish I understood why her mother treated her that way, I think it’s more common than we think. Such an amazing life and such an amazing spirit goes along with this author.

I am better for it
Reviewed: 12-11-23
This book was amazing. The author is unmatched. The transparency was palpable. Never read such a well constructed story. I did not feel persuaded in anyway. I felt that the author was extremely unbiased. I would like to know if McDonald’s lawyer, still in fact, believes he is in innocence, or if he is basically doing the best he can, with where he has found himself. This book has the highest integrity. I never once caught myself confused by the details they were delivered and easily understandable phases. My heart goes out to the Kassab’s. I was so thankful that Freddie believes so deeply in his heart that justice could be served. And that he acted on it. Reading this book in 2023 with the crime being so much older took nothing away from the book. Joe McGinnis is a genius, and I believe he is a fair and good person.

I really loved the narrator. I love the frankness of the writer. I loved the humanity of the FBI. I loved all of the details being included even the mistakes that were made. I love the sense of pride for being an American. I’m so happy he wrote this book.especially coming after Malcolm Gladwell’s book this book answered a lot of questions.

Story
On June 27, 1996, 30-year-old Anne Marie Fahey, who was the scheduling secretary for the governor of Delaware, had dinner with a man she had been having a secret affair with for over two years. "Tommy" Capano, 47, was perhaps the most politically powerful man in Wilmington. Son of a wealthy contractor, former state prosecutor, partner in a prestigious law firm, advisor to governors and mayors, Tom had a soft-spoken, considerate manner, endearing him to many. But sometime after 9:15 that night when Anne Marie and Tom left a Philadelphia restaurant, something terrible happened to her.

Beautifully told. Very good book. I wonder why the judge never mentioned that Tom should’ve been held to a higher standard, since he was an attorney, an officer of the law. Other than that it was perfect.

I have read several true crime, authors, including Gerry, Bledsoe, and other books by and rand this book is amazing. Not only is it eye-opening towards the depravity some men are capable of showing, but all women are often prayed upon. It was so good I might have to read it twice. I would’ve loved to of heard quotes from the quart room putting Brad in his place. I would’ve loved for Michael to have ultimately been the one to nail Brad‘s coffin shot. And I thought that might be coming but it never was. He truly cannot be reformed and he definitely would kill again. The only place he could ever belong is in prison.
