Story
In a world of criminals, thugs, con artists, cheats, and swindlers, there must be a man to stand against the powers of darkness and corruption. A man not afraid to walk the mean streets—whether they be those of 1930s Los Angeles, an ancient fantasy realm, or some far-flung planet of a future star empire. He is a man who knows that a “good man” is not always a “nice guy”. But when the chips are down, he understands that a hero does the right thing, even if it means losing everything.

Not ever story was a hit but the ones that were I didn't want to end. Overall most of the authors captured the hard boiled detective feel.

Story
When one thinks of the classic adventure-story authors of the pulp fiction era, H. Rider Haggard, Talbot Mundy, and Rafael Sabatini may come first to mind. But Arthur O. Friel's stellar contributions - particularly his stories featuring Lourenco and Pedro, two workers on a rubber-tree plantation in the Amazon Jungle. Their adventures in the Amazon's mysterious back-country certainly deserve honorable mention. Here are tales of peril and last-minute rescue, brutal savages and men of honor, snake-worshipping armies and half-ape Lost Races-and many more!

I was hoping for another entry in a fantasy detective series. What I got was a weak story with chapter long rants about women's reproductive rights and male dominated societies. I had previously enjoyed this series as it was an escape from the issues of today. I only made it half way through so I can't comment on the story's mystery overall but I was never really pulled in. Obviously this is the author's world and he can do with it what he wants but in my opinion fans of detective stories will be disappointed.
For the record the narration was as good as ever.

The characters are really well written and perfectly acted. The narrator does an amazing job. It's a great supernatural western although the third act is a little weak. Some rules and story elements seem to fall to the way side for no real reason.

If you've been a fan of the previous 3 books this one is worth your time. Personally book 2 , A Witch Walks into my Office, is still my favorite. I think it's done the best job of still being a solid detective story along with everything else. The narrator continues to do a fantastic job. I eagerly awaited the release of this book and I'll be doing the same for book 5.
