Story
After nearly eighteen months at Basgiath War College, Violet Sorrengail knows there’s no more time for lessons. No more time for uncertainty. Because the battle has truly begun, and with enemies closing in from outside their walls and within their ranks, it’s impossible to know who to trust. Now Violet must journey beyond the failing Aretian wards to seek allies from unfamiliar lands to stand with Navarre. The trip will test every bit of her wit, luck, and strength, but she will do anything to save what she loves—her dragons, her family, her home, and him.

Emotionally Gripping

OMG! I was not expecting this to hold my attention so tightly. I thought that I would be able to listen to this book for at least two weeks. I was so wrong. Once I started I couldn’t stop listening during every free moment I could find. I started doing dishes by hand multiple times through the day to make time to listen to this book. The characters that I have come to know so well are all here and you get to see them grow in the story. But this is definitely a great book that can stand on its own. And yes I cried, more than once. I felt the same grief, pain, and sadness with those I have come to know so well from the other two books. But those were not the only emotions that I felt during the read either. Joy, frustration (both sexual and normal), laughter, and moments of wonder were a few others that I felt along with our book friends. Join me in the sleepless nights and the antisocial behavior it takes to finish this wonderful book with the attention it deserves.

Jim does it again. I love this story and I am so glad that I started it at this point. I'm not sure what I would do if I had to wait for the next book. Reading on, still enjoying, but I still hate those bloody horns!

Love the book, but hate the random horns sounding throughout

Great story, great reader, but I hate those blasted horns that sound randomly throughout. That is the only reason I cannot give the performance the full five starts that the reader deserves.

Story
When an unknown someone shoots him and leaves him to die, Harry Dresden hopes he might be heading to a better place. Unfortunately being dead doesn't make Harry's life any easier. Trapped between life and death, he learns that his friends are in serious trouble. Only by finding his murderer can he save his friends and move on - a feat that would be a lot easier if he had a body and access to his powers. Worse still are the malevolent shadows that roam Chicago, controlled by a dark entity that wants Harry to suffer even in death.

This book will leave you wishing that time travel was possible in the wizard world. It makes you also think about the decision that were made and if you could do it over would you. This book is like a right of passage and one worth going through.

Here, together for the first time, are the shorter works of best-selling author Jim Butcher - a compendium of cases that Harry and his cadre of allies managed to close in record time. The tales range from the deadly serious to the absurdly hilarious.

I was not sure about reading this book before Ghost Story but now I am glad that I did. You need this one before the next book to really get a sense of who Dresden is to those around him. And you also get a better sense of who his core friends are. I am rooting for you till the end Harry!

By the end I am left saying, 'it can't be true, I have to read the next to make sure'. I love it when you can't tell where a book is leading you or how it will get to where it is going. This is one of those books. And Harry, I don't do hats either.
