About this listen

The first short-story collection in the number-one New York Times- best-selling series - including brand-new Harry Dresden short stories!

Here, together for the first time, are the shorter works of best-selling author Jim Butcher - a compendium of cases that Harry and his cadre of allies managed to close in record time. The tales range from the deadly serious to the absurdly hilarious. Also included is a new, never-before-published novella that takes place after the cliff-hanger ending of Changes. This is a must-have collection for every devoted Harry Dresden fan, as well as a perfect introduction for readers ready to meet Chicago's only professional wizard.

I am so grateful for Mr. Butcher and Mr. Marsters. I wanted to get the anthologies that contain the Dresden short stories, but did not necessarily want to listen to all of the stories written by other authors. I also couldn't imagine listening to any Dresden stories narrated by anyone other than James. This is a prayer answered. The stories are classic Harry and shed a lot of light on things just glimpsed in the series. My only negative is that I still have too long to wait for the next installment. Bravo!

'Job' Well Done!

I normally do not like short stories. Usually these seem to be the left over bits and pieces that were not good enough to make into the series proper. Being a huge Dresden fan I bought this one anyway and was quite pleased.

I will say that some of the stories are hit and miss but some (Read: The Warrior) were great and match anything in the series toe to toe. If you are a fan this one is worth a credit and I almost never say that about short story collections.

Pretty good for a short story collection

An excellent collection of stories about Harry Dresden and his colleagues. This collection is not excerpts from the Dresden series, some are from other anthologies and some are novellas, all are original from the series. I had only heard one before...so each story was captivating, filled with detail and creative ongoing adventures of Dresden. Directions are given to the listener as to when the stories were written and why (by James Butcher). Included in the first chapter is a story written by Butcher as he was a budding author, how far he has come and taken us with him. The last story picks up immediately after CHANGES...excellent! Thanks Jim Butcher for great entertainment! Narrator is superb...five stars!

A Must for Dresden Fans

Lt. Murphy is amazing. one of the best side characters to Dresden. I was so excited to read a short story focused on her. it fell a bit flat in some places, but overall really good story that expandes the universe.

Great but missing something

Interesting group of stories. Won't do anything to spoil the last one because it is quite surprise. Well with the listen.

I love this collection of stories. Don't listen to it until you are finished with Changes. It will make more sense if you wait until then. And there are spoilers. Very enjoyable, highly recommend.

An excellent sampling of Dresden's world

If you’re expecting something other than that you’ll be disappointed. I have had this book on my shelf until I finished the whole number books in the series having just finished Battle Ground and here I am. 20 minutes to his first story and when a random cop comes out of the darkness to save Harrys ass and when he reads her name tag and it’s who other than Karen Murphy. (Hmm-hmm not choking up).
I love the Dresdin books I quickly and easily fall into that world and forget my troubles for awhile.

Short stories.
