Story
It's 1978. Nero Wolfe, New York's 300-pound epicurean genius detective, has been dead for two years, leaving Archie holding the brownstone. In a post-Wolfe dystopia with a sense of humor, Archie, Saul, Fritz, and Cramer find themselves in the crosshairs of a worldwide criminal cartel. In America, it's a time of change: Vietnam, Watergate, free love, smallpox, the reserve clause, and cheap oil are all history. Aided and abetted by Roy Cohn, Richard Wragg, Dorothy Bruce, the Army, FBI, CIA, and the Dutch police, will Saul and Archie live up to Wolfe's legacy?

Great listen. Enjoyed all the references to Stout stories. Enjoyed this story with its own twists & turns.

Story
Belfast, October 1940. Twenty-year-old zookeeper Hettie Quin arrives at the city docks in time to meet her new charge: an orphaned three-year-old Indian elephant named Violet. As Violet adjusts to her new solitary life in captivity and Hettie mourns the recent loss of her sister and the abandonment of her father, new storm clouds gather. A world war rages, threatening a city already reeling from escalating tensions between British Loyalists and those fighting for a free and unified Ireland.

A charming story. Interesting dynamics. I loved the parade and the love for the element.
Interesting comparing zoo jobs of there and then with now.

This isn’t a novel, just part of one.

A “never ending story,” A “cliff hanger.” Not a satisfying read.
The adventures are lively and lovingly described, but never a conclusion to an episode. Will probably return it and look for something better.
