Her parents are gone, the family bookstore is all but bankrupt, and her sister, Sophie, will probably never speak to her again. But when a mysterious letter arrives in her mailbox, Isabel feels herself drawn to the past. After years of fighting for her independence, she dreads the thought of going back to the island.

like this storyline but the accents are bizarre. I lived in FL for a while and never heard any accents like these, very much a distraction from the storyline. Admittedly I never met anyone from the Greenville area, but I surely never met anyone with these accents. I will try five oh and decide whether I'm committing further

With Flame and Fortune being a tough act to follow this book did ok. I enjoyed the addition of Harrison and Cassie they bring a nice variety to the sea of personalities! Delving into some Cajun culture is always interesting. This time I was surprised by the ending! I enjoyed this book and will add it to my Miss Fortune repeat list

Story
For Rose Gardner, working at the DMV on a Friday afternoon is bad even before she sees a vision of herself dead. She’s had plenty of visions, usually boring ones like someone’s toilet’s overflowed, but she’s never seen one of herself before. When her overbearing momma winds up murdered on her sofa, instead, two things are certain: There isn't enough hydrogen peroxide in the state of Arkansas to get that stain out, and Rose is the prime suspect.

lighthearted mystery with dry humor
Reviewed: 07-02-21
Davis Way is hired by the executive assistant to a casino conglomerate president. Her uncanny likeness to the president's wife is a big factor for her hiring and leads to a series of unfortunate events, deep trouble and danger. Davis deals with a few ongoing family issues, for example what kind of Mother would withhold information from her daughter like a severe seafood allergy and act like it's no big deal?!?!
I liked the story and the characters. I prefer this type of whodunit mystery without graphic violence and with humor mixed in as I use Audible for bedtime stories. The style Reminds me of Jana Deleon's Miss Fortune mysteries, Jennifer Crusie or Janet Evanovich.
Some of the writing didn't flow smoothly, like switching from present to past or from Davis' thinking to actuality, I backed up several times to clearly understand what was happening. I look forward to more of this series
