This listen was really enjoyable. I even laughed out loud several times, especially during the interruptions of the story when the characters converse about the story. I also found the promotions to buy the books amusing. This is just one clever story. The narration is excellent as well.

If you like speculative Victorian fiction with interesting female characters, give this series a try.

This third installment in the Custard Protocol series is the best yet. I laughed out loud several times. It also deals nicely with trans issues, in a Victorian context, of course. Moira Quirk's narration was exquisite. This is one of the best narrated books I've ever listened to.

Pip Ballantine is a wonderful narrator

I'm writing this in response to another review that panned the narration. I was leery of buying this audiobook because of that review, but I listened to the sample and decided it didn't sound too bad. What you can't tell from the sample is that Pip Ballantine is a splendid narrator. Tee Morris is passable and does a decent job with different accents, but Pip stole the show. The story was interesting with a surprise or two; a nice continuation of the saga of Eliza, Wellington, and Sophia.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would definitely recommend this. The story is hilarious and entertaining and the narration was thoroughly enjoyable.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Big Love?

There were lots of laugh-out-loud moments, but the 'je ne sais quoi' routine was classic. I had to stop the book until I finished laughing so I didn't miss anything.

What about Layce Gardner’s performance did you like?

I am usually leery of authors reading their own books. Having heard Gardner read excerpts before, however, I was cautiously optimistic about this full-length narration. While Gardner was briefly a little stiff at the beginning, she quickly relaxed into the reading and did a wonderful job. The different characters' voices were easily identifiable; Zing's voice was perfect. Gardner ably captured Zing's naiveté and exuberance. It's clear that Gardner's previous acting experience made her a skilled narrator of her own work.It was a real treat to hear how she envisioned her characters and what they must sound like in her own head.
