Story
An updated version of the seminal 1994 classic volume on the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. Nearly every book with "wabi" or "wabi sabi" in the title is based on the concepts first elucidated in this book. Wabi-sabi is the quintessential Japanese aesthetic. It is a beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete. It is a beauty of things modest and humble. It is a beauty of things unconventional....

The book has many stand alone moments which remain in the mind long after the words have been read, like wabi sabi. I am in awe with the transformation and dedication and place in time this book takes.

Story
Balram Halwai is a complicated man. Servant. Philosopher. Entrepreneur. Murderer. Balram tells us the terrible and transfixing story of how he came to be a success in life - having nothing but his own wits to help him along. Through Balram's eyes, we see India as we've never seen it before: the cockroaches and the call centers, the prostitutes and the worshippers, the water buffalo and, trapped in so many kinds of cages that escape is (almost) impossible, the white tiger.
With a charisma as undeniable as it is unexpected, Balram teaches us that religion doesn't create morality and money doesn't solve every problem.

This is a very powerful book. I was surprised to learn it was a debut novel. The writing is concise and minimal. Looking forward to future works by this talented writer.

Story
Wallace Stegner's uniquely American classic centers on Lyman Ward, a noted historian who relates a fictionalized biography of his pioneer grandparents at a time when he has become estranged from his own family. Through a combination of research, memory, and exaggeration, Ward voices ideas concerning the relationship between history and the present, art and life, parents and children, and husbands and wives.

Story
At some point, every one of us embarks on a journey to find love. We meet people, date, get into and out of relationships, all with the hope of finding someone with whom we share a deep connection. This seems standard now, but it’s wildly different from what people did even just decades ago. Single people today have more romantic options than at any point in human history. With technology, our abilities to connect with and sort through these options are staggering. So why are so many people frustrated?

I absolutely love this book. There was moment in the beginning where I realized suddenly that I was in the magic of a books world, and left my own world, but then the book goes on with practical wisdom and universal themes which causes both worlds to align, and everything feels mystical, powerful, and gives a treasure at the end every reader can leave with.

Story
Hayat Shah was captivated by Mina long before he met her: his mother's beautiful, brilliant, and soulfully devout friend is a family legend. When he learns that Mina is leaving Pakistan to live with the Shahs in America, Hayat is thrilled. Hayat's father is less enthusiastic. He left the fundamentalist world behind with reason. What no one expects is that when Mina shows Hayat the beauty and power of the Quran, it will utterly transform the boy.

So good I bought the hardcopy

Brene Brown does a great job keeping the conversation around leadership light. He approach is relatable, simple, and effective. Not only did I feel better after listening to what she had to say, but I felt empowered. This book is so good I went to the store and bought a hardcopy so I could see how she breaks down the lists. It has been nice to see how they translated the list into audio book as well. I recommend it.
