Good Urban fantasy novel that held my attention and delivered on characters and plot. Never had that feeling where I had to force myself to keep listening, I wanted to know what happened next.

For me this one lagged a bit in the first quarter of the book. Nothing terrible, but I kept waiting to hear about what the familiar characters were up to. This book is mostly about the interest and history of a new character. However we get back to the meat of the main plot after that. This is still one of the better epic fantasies, with a rich history and diverse characters. Narrator does a good job, but in this book a few characters have the same voice, so you need to be mindful of scene switches.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Yes and no, was entertaining, but sometimes had to force myself to continue listening.

Would you recommend The Everything Box to your friends? Why or why not?

For those with a warped sense of humor, and not looking for a serious story.

What about Oliver Wyman’s performance did you like?

Good range of voices and accents.

Do you think The Everything Box needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Perhaps, I would probably listen to another book if the series continues, but honestly it wouldn't be a must-read.

Any additional comments?

Decent light-hearted urban fantasy for adults with a sense of humor. Provided a few laughs and chuckles, but the story overall didn't grab and hold my attention like Kadrey's Sandman Slim novels. Not a bad story, just not great either. One for when you need something to listen to while doing other things.

Nothing serious, just lite stories to pass the time. Easy to listen to, good for those short periods.

The good stories carried the narrator, but the others only enhanced a droning and rather flat performance. Such a combination almost made me put the book down for good several times.

If you could sum up Gardens of the Moon in three words, what would they be?

Deep Rich Fantasy

What did you like best about this story?

It has a rich history and deep world-building on which to base its story. To me the pacing was good, with plenty of action and intrigue. There are many layers of emotion and motivation, with "real" flawed characters. Decent magic system defined, along with gods, dragons, and magical weapons. I do like that the setting is more grim & gritty than say, The Lord of the Rings.

Which scene was your favorite?

Too many to choose from, along with a wide variety. Everything from large scale battles with magic, to humorous card games, to bargains with gods. One of the best fantasy books I've read in a long time.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Hoods Breath! Do you dare enter a world where even the Gods may be slain?

Any additional comments?

The only downfall to some might be that there is a rich history to learn and remember along with a huge cast of characters.

Would you listen to Sacrament again? Why?

Yeah, but not anytime soon. The story's pacing was slow in places, between the action, but held my attention. I did finish the book and did not find myself getting bored or using it to fall asleep. Decent mish-mash of normal life and paranormal/horror.

What other book might you compare Sacrament to and why?

Take your pick of Stephen King...

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The reader's voice at first sounded to me like one of the robot voices. After a time it grew on me and was passable. At times the female voices all sounded the same.

Any additional comments?

Main character is gay, this may affect how some readers approach this book. As is typical with Barker, sex is a part of the story, but there is nothing overly explicit. Others may be put off by the almost-sex scene between one of the antagonists and a minor.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

For me Kadrey's style of writing just clicks, I enjoy the mix of fantasy and real life and the attitude of the characters. It was an enjoyable romp through an imaginative world. I also see many hints of Sandman Slim in the main character. The best complement I can give is that I devoured the book as quickly as I was able to, and then found myself looking to see if there was a sequel. The narration was adequate and did not detract from the story.

Would you try another book from R. A. Salvatore and/or An All-Star Cast?

Yes, but would definitely research the review more thoroughly and review a demo before purchasing.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

First story was ok, but the rest I listened to were sub-par fantasy. They seemed like the left-over brain-droppings that someone scraped together in an attempt to make some money. To me the narration was flat and hindered by poor writing. To be fair I only made it about half way though the book and then couldn't take any more.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The beginning and ending parts of the book were listenable. For me there was heavy drag in the middle. Found that I had to force myself to keep listening. There were also parts of the story where the writing seemed just "meh". I've read much better by McCammon.

What do you think the narrator could have done better?

Ray Porter did a fair job overall, and tried to give distinct voices to the main characters.
