It’s good. Really good. Honest. I just want them to find peace somewhere and remind me that we can find it if we try. Maybe that’s the point- there will only be change if we make it.

Story
The Women’s House of Detention, a landmark that ushered in the modern era of women’s imprisonment, is now largely forgotten. But when it stood in New York City’s Greenwich Village, from 1929 to 1974, it was a nexus for the tens of thousands of women, transgender men, and gender-nonconforming people who inhabited its crowded cells. Some of these inmates—Angela Davis, Andrea Dworkin, Afeni Shakur—were famous, but the vast majority were incarcerated for the crimes of being poor and improperly feminine.

Story
Inspector Treadles, Charlotte Holmes’ friend and collaborator, has been found locked in a room with two dead men, both of whom worked with his wife at the great manufacturing enterprise she has recently inherited. Rumors fly. Had Inspector Treadles killed the men because they had opposed his wife’s initiatives at every turn? Had he killed in a fit of jealous rage because he suspected Mrs. Treadles of harboring deeper feelings for one of the men? To make matters worse, he refuses to speak on his own behalf, despite the overwhelming evidence against him.

Man seemingly mocks true crime through the lens of a 50 year old perimenopausal … complex and mentally ill woman.
What is real and what is a figment of her imagination? A decent amount of gore without hitting gore porn status. I’m getting ready to reread this and figure out if I missed anything because I still have questions and I’m not sure if it’s my ADD or it’s on purpose. Lots of twists and turns.
Not a huge horror fan but I love true crime. Gave this guy 5 stars. The narrator did a great job.

Story
Joni Mitchell, Carole King, and Carly Simon remain among the most enduring and important women in popular music. Their stories trace the arc of the now-mythic generation known as "the 60s" - the female version. Filled with the voices of dozens of these women's intimates, this alternating biography reads like a novel. Except it's all true.

Story
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

When there are entire excerpts written comically from the POV of an Octopus - you can’t go wrong.
Moderately easy, digestible read. I appreciated the emphasis on the human-ness of the elderly. It reads as a loving reminder that family looks different for everyone.
Thanks to this book I have now and will continue to spend countless hours researching the octopus.
I know it’s a novel but knowing the area, a book about a town based THIS close to Seattle seems like it should have at least ONE homosexual character.
Still easily gave it 5 stars.
