It brought many components of a great story together: romance, intrigue, danger and introspection. Far fetched, yet believable at the same time. A great escape.

Story
He's not kept a diary for decades but here, in Dog Days, Andrew Cotter draws inspiration from the great Samuel Pepys; like him, he bears witness to the extraordinary everyday as the world tilts on its axis in our own unsettling era. And so, with Olive and Mabel at his side - actually, dawdling in the long grass or sleeping upside down - Andrew takes a clear-eyed, often hilarious walk through a year that encompasses all of life from the crushingly mundane to the decidedly odd.

A “tail” worth remembering
Reviewed: 03-12-24
I loved the original Olive and Mabel book and added this to my library when i saw it available. Strangely, i had not listened to it until now(2024).
A wonderful aspect of the human psyche is that we have very short memories for painful things. I really appreciate Andrew having documented these difficult times while reminding us that life goes on, and a dog still needs his kibble. We discussed and reminisced as a family those days “long ago” and hope they are truly behind us. Having a black Lab named Mabel myself, (same age and appearance as Olive, actually) made this even more enjoyable. Thanks, Andrew!

I chose this story on a whim from the Audible Originals for some lighthearted fun. All 3 episodes were that and them some. I was touched and amused more than i can describe. Mookie is my kind of kid.

Story
"Just three dates. That's all I'm asking. One boy shares your sense of humor. Another has similar interests and ideals. The third boy has a helpful heart like yours." When Aditi Gupta comes home late from work as a pediatric resident one night and her grandfather offers this pitch, she reluctantly agrees. She's far too busy with med school to be dating, and besides, she dreams of a love for the ages, like her parents, not an arranged marriage. And yet she finds herself agreeing to three dates because she loves her grandfather. All she has to do is make herself utterly ineligible.

I enjoyed the story. I was not keen on the narration. As usual in performance, the medical experience references were not necessarily accurate. Regardless, it was a fun quick listen and very sweet.

The story was well paced and progressed well. The peek into the Indian culture in the UK was very interesting. Shared the Audible performance as we did weekend errands and my husband downloaded the book when we got home!
