Story
True-crime podcaster Jess Keeler has returned to Deeton County, North Carolina, to pick up where her grandfather left off. Sheriff’s Deputy Big Jim Ballard, her grandfather, was a respected detective—until it all came crashing down during a 1972 murder investigation. For Jim, solving the murders of two teens should have been the highlight of his already storied career. Instead, he battled his own mind, unsure where his hunches ended and the truth began.

Worthy suggestion from Audible

This was suggested to me thru an Audible sale and I definitely enjoyed it. The full cast was great, even if some of the narrators were a little over the top. Would read more by the author.

Story
Blythe Connor is determined that she will be the warm, comforting mother to her new baby Violet that she herself never had. But in the thick of motherhood's exhausting early days, Blythe becomes convinced that something is wrong with her daughter - she doesn't behave like most children do. Or is it all in Blythe's head? Her husband, Fox, says she's imagining things. The more Fox dismisses her fears, the more Blythe begins to question her own sanity, and the more we begin to question what Blythe is telling us about her life as well.

Not a great read for a new mother 😣

This book is meant to make you uncomfortable, but it did too good a job. It made me want to kiss my babies and be grateful I didn’t have a Violet.

An updated Huck Finn combined with Peace like a River
Reviewed: 10-12-23
Great story. Author stated it started as an updated story of Huck Finn but became its own story. Definitely would have listened to more adventures of these Vagabonds!

Story
Meg Murry, her little brother Charles Wallace, and their mother are having a midnight snack on a dark and stormy night when an unearthly stranger appears at their door. He claims to have been blown off course and goes on to tell them that there is such a thing as a "tesseract", which, if you didn't know, is a wrinkle in time. Meg's father had been experimenting with time travel when he suddenly disappeared. Better performance than the author read version

Definitely a classic worth reading, with an inspiring message about love. Not an all time favorite for me, but I still liked it. I found the afterword read by the author’s granddaughter insightful.

Not sure why this was rated so high

I get most of my book recommendations off Goodreads. This was rated at 4+ so I took a chance. Not as good as I was hoping. Writing was mediocre. Didn’t like the narrator. Maybe it’s just me 🤷♀️

Story
They are Hazel, James, Aubrey, and Colette. A classical pianist from London, a British would-be architect turned soldier, a Harlem-born ragtime genius in the US Army, and a Belgian orphan with a gorgeous voice and a devastating past. Their story, as told by goddess Aphrodite, who must spin the tale or face judgment on Mount Olympus, is filled with hope and heartbreak, prejudice and passion, and reveals that, though war is a formidable force, it's no match for the transcendent power of love.

Excellent story made even better by full audio cast.

I loved this book. The full audio cast made the story even better. Although it is not the main focus of the story, this book enlightened me to how blacks were treated during WWI and afterwards. Strongly recommend listening to all the author’s notes after the story!
