Insanely funny

Overall
5 out of 5 stars

Roy Blount has the rare ability to see ordinary things from an angle I've never considered. Always insightful, his unusual perspective also makes him hilarious at times. Did you ever look at the guy in the next car, and see that he was laughing insanely? That guy is me, listening to this book.

Roy Blount also has a very special voice. Hearing his writings spoken by him adds an important dimension that's lacking from the printed page.

Childish

I was disappointed in this purchase. The Astronaut from Wyoming was very tedious. It was the type of story that sets up an unrealistic society composed almost entirely of one-dimensional morons and then says "Look how unfair things are!" when in fact the unfairness was a product of the simplistic society the author created.

The 9/11 story was trivial and devoid of insight. Without spoiling it, let me just say that the author apparently doesn't understand the concept of religious fanaticism and the cultural differences that lead to terrorism. If terrorists saw things the way we do from our cultural perspective, they wouldn't do the things they do. Some will say that that's what this story was about, but I think it completely missed the target.

The other two tales, however, were very good.
