Story
Bertie Wooster's newfound enthusiasm for the banjolele results in his eviction from his apartment and, to his outrage, having to take notice from his hitherto devoted manservant, Jeeves. Repairing to the country with his banjolele and new valet, Brinkley, Bertie soon finds himself in no shortage of trouble. A visit to an American yacht ends with him locked in a stateroom by a prospective father-in-law.

Narration is amazing and perfectly captures the characters! Not counting the excellence of Hugh Laurie and Stephen Fry in the TV show, this narrator is the only one who does the voices perfectly! Everyone has their own unique voice and the rapidity with which he switches between voices is nothing short of outstanding. This is one of my favorite of the Jeeves and Wooster books. I can’t stop laughing at the shenanigans!

I am a huge fan of then Jeeves and Wooster TV series. Of course I love Stephen Fry and Hugh Laurie but this narrator is able to embody the characters essence and is a pure joy to listen to!

Miriam will be happy to hear I did not come to this audiobook because of her role in Harry Potter but instead because I absolutely loved her as Prudence Stanley in Miss Fisher’s Murder Mystery, both the TV show and film. And I will admit I did expect to hear some story or mention of it but did not, so if you are reading this Miriam, please can we get a sequel with all the rest of your stories???
I am not one who normally likes listening to autobiographies - I much prefer fiction - but since she narrated it and I had the aforementioned desire to hear about one of my favorite shows, I took a chance. And I’m so glad I did. She is a hoot. And whipsmart and absolutely unfailingly honest about herself and about the world. I was blown away by her voice acting, wow! If I didn’t know it was her, when she did the character voices, I would have sworn it was someone else. I burst out laughing, yelled “yes” at my iPhone when I agreed with her assessments about the world, which happened a lot, and was completely enthralled. I couldn’t stop listening. I can see why she has so many friends; I want to be friends with her! She is an absolute treasure and needs to be protected at all costs! I love how utterly relatable she is, even when she’s describing hanging out with Prince - now King - Charles!
While the world might completely suck a lot of the time, it’s a lot brighter knowing Miriam is in it and doing her part to try to fix it up!

Story
Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell is whisked off to a remote island off the tip of Cornwall when her natural historian colleague Stoker's brother calls in a favor. On the pretext of wanting a companion to accompany him to Lord Malcolm Romilly's house party, Tiberius persuades Veronica to pose as his fiancée. But upon arriving, it becomes clear that the party is not as innocent as it had seemed. Every invited guest has a connection to Romilly's wife, Rosamund, who disappeared on her wedding day three years ago, and a dramatic dinner proves she is very much on her husband's mind.

I love this series! Veronica is a strong and independent character, who makes her own way in a mans world. She goes toe-to-toe with Stoker and other men without losing her sense of being a modern woman. I love how things are finally really heating up between her and Stoker, but without either of them having to compromise! The way relationships should be!
As always a riveting mystery and thriller with all the elements I've come to love in this series. Even Jack the Ripper makes a cameo for historical context and of course science abounds.
I blew through this book and am now eagerly awaiting the next one...it can't come soon enough!!!!! Excelsior, as Veronica so aptly says!

This is a fun listen. I absolutely love the premise and really appreciate the historical setting, albeit the events tweaked based on the fact that the discovery of magical people changed history. This had a little of everything - in a good way!
The narrator is awesome and does a superb job at creating unique voices for each character, and there are many of them! It was easy to get swept into the listen and it was a shock to realize only one person was voicing the whole thing. Excellent character development and you really get a good sense of each of their motivations and personalities.
I really can’t wait to listen to the next one!

Georgette Heyer doesn't disappoint with her witty dialogue and madcap adventures!
Not one of the best narrators - I wish her male voices were a bit stronger - but I do appreciate it when narrators make the characters stand or from one another. Her timing and intonation was spot one.

This series gets better and better! I love the mix of wit, romance, mystery and a good dose of comedy to allay the emotion brought on by the quite devilish murders the main characters must solve. They are complex and well created.
I really appreciate that there’s growth and development in the characters and their relationship with each other. Each of the characters are superbly written!
Ellen Archer’s narration is flawless and I forget I’m listening to a book, getting swept up in the voices and the story. It’s like listening to a movie or a play. She is a wizard with the different accents and making sure each character has their own unique sound.
Please, please keep writing books for this series!!! It is one of my favorites and I can’t wait for the next book!!!!

A new favorite series
Reviewed: 09-27-18
First I have to address the negative comments about sex in the book. Realize the timing of the book - Regency period - and the fact that the whole setting for this mystery is within the Bohemian community. What else would you expect? And to be honest unless you are a bit prudish with overly strong sensibilities, nothing was ever really that explicit and no sexual encounter was ever related in any detail. And the first book should have turned you off because Veronica is not a character who would appeal to you. She's forthright and doing her absolute best to survive and be true to herself in a VERY male dominated world. She's modern in an antiquated time. Read Outlander and then tell me if this book was over the top in its description or inclusion of sex!
Angele is my new favorite narrator! I absolutely love her skill at voices. It's so easy to forget you are only listening to one person. And she captures the essences of each character perfectly! I'm always impressed at her Stoker and how much she can convey through her voice. I know if I ever read the books, it will be her voices I hear on the page.
I can't wait to read the next book! These are becoming my newest addiction. I may not be able to wait until my next credit! ;-)
