Story
In Iain Reid’s second haunting, philosophical puzzle of a novel, set in the near future, Junior and Henrietta live a comfortable, solitary life on their farm, far from the city lights, but in close quarters with each other. One day, a stranger from the city arrives with alarming news: Junior has been randomly selected to travel far away from the farm...very far away. The most unusual part? Arrangements have already been made so that when he leaves, Henrietta won't have a chance to miss him, because she won't be left alone - not even for a moment.

I had a very strong feeling that this book was not going to wrap up anything in the end. I do not like the non ending ending! Did the author go brain dead about 20% short of the ending?

The end felt like a real cheat to me....the whole thing didn’t really grab me, but to end on an old “ surprise/suspense “ ending felt like a cheat! After wading through, I would have liked some sort of a “good” payoff!

This story is quite long, and generally I prefer that. I liked the main characters, and the rambling story line. I, unfortunately had other things going on around me while listening, and so I feel like I missed bits and pieces here and there.
I will listen again.

I am not a prude, and I enjoyed this book, however, the Author's use of the word FUCK seems to loose it's impact after it is used multi, multi times. Perhaps he/she could look in a dictionary or thesaurus to find other descriptors to broaden and improve his/her vocabulary.

I love the Hangman and his daughter!
Reviewed: 12-31-13
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Assuming historicall correctness, I would recomend this to a friend. One who isn't too squeamish about the filth, and vermine of the time period. The Hangmans integrity, determination, and apparent indestructability, are nothing less than super human, yet believable. I enjoy the foibles and funniness of his daughter and her lover/boyfriend. You wouldn't think there could be anything about those years that could be funny, but the added humor help make the rest readable.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Hangman of course.
Which character – as performed by Grover Gardner – was your favorite?
His daughter, who generally acts first then thinks SECOUND, is truly his daughter.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I listened to it a bit at a time, or I could go right through.
Any additional comments?
I have one more to go, then I hope Mr. Potzsch will write more.

This book sucks! Then it sucks lemons!
Reviewed: 12-31-13
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I don't think I can recomend this to anyone. This book has a multitude of characters, with strange names from a multitude of species, with strange names, from a multitude of worlds, some invisible. It is very difficult to follow the many characters, species, and worlds, as each has it's own story line, some of which finally fit together eventually, some who don't. It ends with death, and an explanation of "I lied" which may be intended as a cliff hanger.....to find out what happens next, assumably you must read the next book. I, personally can't imagine wanting to go back for more. There isn't enough character development to get to know any one character to care what happens to them. Bye, bye
Would you ever listen to anything by Kevin J. Anderson again?
I doubt it.
What about George Guidall’s performance did you like?
I generally like Mr. Guidall's reading. What he is reading isn't his fault.
What character would you cut from Hidden Empire: The Saga of Seven Suns, Book 1?
Most of them.
Any additional comments?
Maybe the author could dismantle the entire book, and seperate the story lines for each individual, and follow that person/thing to the end seperated from the others?
