About this listen

Circe Quinn, the office manager of a moving company, goes to sleep at home and wakes up in a corral filled with women wearing sacrificial virgin attire—and she’s one of them.

She figures this is not good and soon finds she’s not having a wild dream; she’s living a frightening nightmare. She’s been transported to a barren land populated by a primitive people, where she’s installed very unwillingly on her white throne of horns as their queen.

Dax Lahn is the king of Suh Tunak, the Horde of the nation of Korwahk. With one look at Circe, he knows she will be his bride and together they will start the Golden Dynasty of legend.

Circe and Lahn are separated by language, culture, and the small fact she’s from a parallel universe and has no idea how she got there. Or, more importantly, how to get home.

Facing challenge after challenge, Circe finds her footing as Queen of the brutal Korwahk Horde and wife to its King.

Then she finds herself falling in love with this primitive land, its people and especially their savage leader.

My annual read and it's a winner, of course.

I read this story maybe once or twice a year, it's my absolute all time favorite by Kristen Ashely. The Dany and Khal Drogo fanfic, but with a happy ending. I just like to live with this story in my mind cause the alternative is no dice.

From the world and the characters, it's a brutal world that Circe that she has to quickly adapt to. It's not easy with many barriers to work through, but the journey is an epic one.

This book is always a hard one to recommend because of the content, please check out the content warnings. If you've seen Game of Thrones, you'll have a little bit of an idea of the horde life.

Tillie Hooper did such a great job with the narration, the language was interesting enough. It felt off at times, but I have nothing to compare it to since it's a made up language.

New Favorite

I had a favorite book and it was amazing! But then I listened to this story and listened to it again, then again, then again! I now have a new favorite story! There are so many highs and lows with this story it’s a roller coster of emotions! It’s sexy and sweet. Violent and gentle. Frustrating and exhilarating!

Absolutely Amazing

This is the best audio book I've listened to since I started using Audible. The story is very engaging, it keeps you on the edge of your seat anytime you think the book is close to being over, it finds a way to suck you back in with the next chapter.

Totally entertaining

Kristen continues to keep me enraptured with her stories and characters. She knows that people and cultures differ. Wildest dreams had me trapped. Reread uh relistened. Didn't want to miss anything . Buy books also so I can visually read what may confuse me. And let's not forget humor may not in situations, but responses to situations.

Circe won this book for me!

I've probably said something like this before but now I really mean it. NEVER in my life have I wanted to straight up slap a character so much as Lahn. Yeah, I get it their ways are different than what we are used to, and he is a warrior blah blah blah.

There were moments that started at the very beginning of this book right almost to the end where I thought I wouldn't be able to finish this. Circe was freakin' awesome. She took everything that happened to her in stride and just when you thought it couldn't get worse it did. She was quite literally dropped into a new land where she knows not a soul only to be chased through the forest and claimed.

The Golden Dynasty will test your strength at how much you can handle. It was brutal at times but then the real kicker is when you think that Lahn will never earn your love. That there is nothing this man could possibly do to make him redeemable in your eyes he is redeemed.

Rambles, that is all I have for you. I loved all of Circe's girls (except that one) and the language was incredible. Since I listened to the audio, I was able to hear the way Circe & Dax's conversations transformed over their course of time together. Not only did she learn his language, but he learned hers and when they would argue it was so enjoyable to see the back and forth.

After what seems not much of anything I am giving this book four stars, I just can't make myself give it the five stars. Maybe in time after a reread or ten I might bump it up but no matter how much Lahn tried to redeem himself I just can't get over certain things.
