Story
The beat. The cheers. The thrill of the unknown. I shouldn’t leave the safety of the music arena—my last name is McKallister, after all, and I’m intimately familiar with worst-case scenarios. But I’m drawn by the talent and the turmoil behind the weary eyes of the drummer on the streets. I’ve never seen anyone my age as wild and unrestrained, a lightning bolt of electricity that never hits the same spot on his bucket drums twice. He plays with such confidence, such rage. I have to know who he is and where he learned to bang out drum solos like he owns the night. I want to help him.

Another McKallister winning story
Reviewed: 07-14-23
This is a must read/listen to complete the CAKE series. Last of the McKallister children and it did not disappoint. Jill has a super power of writing these touching stories where you feel like you are tagging along for the journey. Love the back stories on her characters! Then to top it off with two of the most amazing narrators who have the gift of bringing Jill’s words to life.
Grace and Rory’s story was so moving and entertaining. An emotional ride which includes yet another side to how this family dealt with Jake’s tragedy at a young age. I especially loved how Grace was able to see into Rory from the very beginning. Without giving much away this is a must read/listen (I prefer audiobooks) but make sure you have read the prior books in the series to learn and understand these characters even more. Great job! One that will stay with me for a long time!

Story
Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother. And that his best friend has a crush on me. And that I just moved in with them. Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?

I wasn’t supposed to be on that roof on Valentine’s Day. Neither was Kellan Marchetti, the school’s designated freak. We met on the verge of ending our lives. Somehow, the tattered strings of our tragedies tangled and tightened into an unlikely bond. We decided not to take the plunge and agreed to check on each other every Valentine’s Day until school ended. Same time. One roof. Two restless souls. We kept our promise for three years.

RJ & Dani's journey was one for the record books. Jill has quite a talent of making you feel like you are along for the entire ride in her stories and this one was an emotional venture. I personally love when an author can engage you the entire time. Such witty bantering, so funny at times and then tugging on your heart strings. A great enemies to lovers story but also a journey to discover what really matters in life. Great job! A MUST read or listen!!! The audiobook is amazing!

Story
Just six years old when my brother was snatched off the street, I grew up in the aftermath of tragedy. While other kids were happily playing in the sandbox, I was hiding under press conference podiums listening to my parents beg for Jake’s safe return. People ask if I’m screwed up after what happened, and I never know how to respond.

This is the 6th book in the CAKE series and one I've been waiting on for a long time! And the wait was worth it! Jill did it again with her amazing talents of writing to make the reader feel they are on the journey with the story.
This is the story of the youngest McKallister brother, Quinn. He has always looked up to his famous rock star older brother. Just as any competitive younger sibling may feel that everything comes so easily to the older sibling and that causes unseen issues sometimes. Quinn seems to like he is always fighting to make himself seen.
Jess is a perfect match for Quinn and easily fits into my idea of what a member of the McKallister family would need to be.
As usual the witty banter makes the reading impossible to put down. Then add these two amazing narrators, Andi Arndt and Zachary Webber, and the story takes on a life of its own!
Make sure to listen until the very end! There is a little authors note that provides some personal insight into Jill's writing and a bonus scene that just adds another layer to the tragedy that this family endures.
Always a no brainer for me to buy anything that Jill writes. It's the perfect escape for me and one i happily go back to many many times! Great job Jill!
