Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Probably not. They would have to be a Sci-Fi nut like me. I will listen to anything, once.

Would you be willing to try another book from B. V. Larson? Why or why not?

I have read B.V. Larson, Starfire, and strangely enough it had the same narrator. I listened to a clip, not the same guy in my opinion. I hope the hero of any further B.V Larson books has a few more street smarts.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I had to look up the spelling for my headline to make sure I spelled it correctly. That is the perfect word for the narrator. It sounded like he was sleepwalking and so did all of his characters. The hero of the book was upstanding, honorable and as about useful as a military leader as a sack of books. Not doubt he was based on the for God and Country type that lead the "Charge of the light Brigade. It was all I could do not to call him an idiot out loud while I was in public.

. will have to listen to the clip of anything I see his name on to make sure he is awake from his long winter's nap.Sigh!

Was Battle Cruiser worth the listening time?

It was 12 hours. It helps a long commute

Any additional comments?

The story was fine, it was just the main character's actions and portrayal that set my teeth on edge. Unfortunately, the smartest and most battle wise person in this story was the Beta, Shi. Who knew, she was supposed to be plodding and slow.

I read the reviews before purchasing. However, none were obviously made by a woman or a person of color. I have read everything Ben Bova has written and have been a Science Fiction fan since I found used paperback version of "I Robot" in a desk drawer 30 years ago. However, I found I had to skip about 5-6 chapters detailing the race war and rapes in the cities. The plot was implausible and assumed that the revolutionaries were idiots without a plan. There was no explanation of their actions except murderous intention and no attempt to show them as anything more than caricatures This was not the worst. Once our heroine "Sherherazade" met the hero she turned from the revolutionary leader and light of the PRU to a simpering female who could be overcome by her lover grabbing her and planting a big one. He did everyrthing except grab her by the hair and drag her into the cave, YUK!
Somewhere near the end, the character become something more than cutouts. However, I found the resolution simplistic and naive. I won't even begin to talk about the narrator.
Every character sounded like an old " geezer". He would do better a a member of an ensemble.
Well, I am off to find my next selection.
