Publisher's summary

One starship will either save Earth or destroy her.

A century ago our star erupted, destroying Earth's wormhole network and closing off trade with her colonized planets. After being out of contact with the younger worlds for so many years, humanity is shocked when a huge ship appears at the edge of the solar system. Our outdated navy investigates, both curious and fearful. What they learn from the massive vessel shocks the planet. The lost colonies have survived - but the reunion isn't going to be a happy one. Our descendants are vastly superior in the art of warfare. Worse, there are other beings undreamed of beyond the human frontier: strange, unfathomable...alien.

Battle cruiser Defiant, the first capital ship to darken Earth's skies, is tasked with exploring new passages to the younger planets. Old Earth must reunite with her children...but can humanity survive the inevitable conflicts? Captain William Sparhawk, determined to follow a path of honor and truthfulness, dares to rise to the challenge. Battle Cruiser is a military science fiction novel by best-selling author B. V. Larson.

Good.

It was good. Story is about a guy born with privilege, the author matches with a privileged accent.
Good story. Interesting. Engaging. Once again, I listened to it in less than 2 days.

Great story!

Loved it! Getting the next book in the series now. Very good narration. I'm a BV Larsen fan. Went back to look for more after listening to newer series and find this gem.

Good start to a new series

What did you love best about Battle Cruiser?

I liked the way he was able to convincingly, and dare I say, realistically, overcome seemingly over whelming odds to achieve success

What was one of the most memorable moments of Battle Cruiser?

the whole book was good

Which character – as performed by Edoardo Ballerini – was your favorite?

The Narrator was perfectly able to convey the lead character. The main character rebelled against his parents, but he still maintained his aristocratic demeanor

Any additional comments?

I was voluntarily provided this free review copy audiobook by the author, narrator, or publisher.

Loved it!!

This book had a bit of everything: space opera, romance, politics, comedy, tragedy. I can't wait to listen to the next one.

Love listening 2space battle stories while working

Awesome pass time, especially while doing boring odd jobs both indoors and outside. Nothing better to occupy the mind while painting, or spending the day alone working, like mowing the yard with Bluetooth buds, and ear muffs over them to block out the noise... ;)

Story OK but...

Any additional comments?

The story started out really good but got a bit long and drawn out. The narrator was a bit melodramatic and overly exaggerated which eventually got on my nerves. Overall though, it was OK.Don't think I will continue with this series but will try another B.V. Larson book.

Excellent but very different for Larson

Any additional comments?

The key to enjoying it is finding the the fun in the lead character, Sparhawk. He is overly self-aware, dry and direct. In Ballerini's hands he reminds me of the personality of (you're not going to believe this) Mr. Peabody from the old Peabody and Sherman cartoons. Once the listener can match the deadpan serious story to the nature of the protagonist the humor leaches out and this book elevates itself to excellence. I remain a fan of Larson - and look to hearing Ballerini interpret other books and authors.

Great Fantacy

The story is great - epic! However, the way it is told is a bit hobby in some places and therefore take away from a smooth/cohesive listen.

Not B.V's best work

This story felt like more a short story than anything else. It is not on par with his swarm series. It still has some good action and moments but it is definitely not his best work. Also the production quality was lacking and voice levels changed often.

If you like space opera then this is a good read but it could certainly be better.

I will keep reading though as I think the author and series will get better. This is some of Larson's earlier work I believe.
