A few awkward moments but overall fantastic!

This is not my first Sanderson book so I could notice the slightly lower quality of his prose in this book, especially with the scenes involving King Eondel. Overall however, the book was gripping from start to finish! I would recommend it to anyone who likes high fantasy.

This story keeps getting better…

Michael Kramer and Kate Reading do a fantastic job at brining the second chapter of this Sanderson epic to life.
The first book, my only complaint was that the story was fairly slow, especially Shallan, in the middle of the book. Here, all those issues disappear as Sanderson brilliantly weaves together all the world-building of the first book to thrust the reader forward in this story. I have zero complaints with this book.
I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

Story
Here is the novel that will be forever considered a triumph of the imagination. Set on the desert planet Arrakis, Dune is the story of the boy Paul Atreides, who would become the mysterious man known as Maud'dib. He would avenge the traitorous plot against his noble family and would bring to fruition humankind's most ancient and unattainable dream.

Woah.

My first introduction to Dune was after the first movie came out and I decided I might as well read the book before Part 2 came out. I was amazed by everything! I feel like I was getting a complete masterclass in politics in the context of one of the most complex and intriguing stories I have ever seen. I will definitely be reading the second book!
Also, the performance was great! I loved the music and having multiple different actors for each character.
My one complaint is that they skip about a page in the book and they skip the “fill in the blank character said” which while that works well for audiobooks, there were a few cases where it limited the depth of intention in the character that you only see if you’re following along in the book, while your listening. Something I always do when reading fiction.
I would recommend to anyone who likes large scale plots and wants to ponder the deep questions that all humans face.

Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

I first heard about this series for the first time from a friend. He told me that this series is long but it would be worth it and BOY IS IT WORTH IT! Sanderson does a fantastic job at building up characters we can root for (and against) as well as a world as big and grand as those characters deserve. Sanderson also has an incredible knowledge of the human experience and knows how to link the beauty of the story he is telling to world we’re in today.
This Audible book also had a fantastic Audible performance with the two narrators telling the male and female characters’ stories in a natural way. Also, highly recommend the hardcover books, they are very nice,

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

From start to finish, this book is an absolute masterpiece. After the Martian, I had high hopes and BOY did this deliver! Andy Wier uses the protagonist to make a science filled (but understandable) world that excites all. From the mysterious escape room at the start of the book to the larger than life ending, listening to this book was a great decision!
Also, this Audible performance was fantastic! The protagonist continues to make things interesting with a wide range of emotion and the supporting cast of characters did a fantastic job at making things interesting. Also Audible did a great job at making the voice of………well I can’t say unique and intriguing.
Also, Andy Weir, if you read this, I’ll pay you $150 for another. Dead serious. If I met you today I’d hand you the money right now.
