About this listen

In 2005, Brandon Sanderson debuted with Elantris, an epic fantasy unlike any other then on the market. To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Tor is reissuing Elantris in a special edition, a fresh chance to introduce it to the myriad readers who have since become Sanderson fans.

This new edition begins with a preface by author Dan Wells, the first person to read the completed novel, and a new afterword by Sanderson explaining how he came to write the book and its place in the Cosmere, the unified universe of all his Tor novels.

Also included is an expanded version of the "Ars Arcanum" appendix, with more of the technical details of the book's magic that fans can never get enough of.

Elantris was truly a milestone both for Sanderson and for the genre of epic fantasy. It deserves this special treatment, something Tor has done only once before, with Orson Scott Card's Ender's Game. Sanderson fans old and new will be excited to discover it.

Editor's Pick

This made me appreciate having super powers
"Even with his debut novel, Sanderson knew what he was doing when it came to world-building. The concept is so fascinating: a city of leper-like people who are cursed with no power to heal from any injury. Unlike a lot of fantasy novels out there, this story is about overcoming adversity with a truly major handicap. It really made me appreciate the abilities I have as an able-bodied human. I mean, in a way, isn’t the ability to heal a really cool power that we all have?"

first time Brandon Sanderson reader

after reading so many brilliant reviews of Sanderson's writing I finally decided that I needed to find out for myself. I am not a fantasy fan but I felt compelled to see what the hype was all about when it came to Brandon Sanderson. I had inquired with many fantasy fans where to start when it comes to Brandon Sanderson. I was told that elantris is his first novel but not his best. I was very intrigued by how the story drew me in. it took me some time to get involved with the characters and the story but once I did I could not wait to hear what happened next. I am very excited to move on with my journey and read more Brandon Sanderson.

Narrator almost ruined the story

I think this was a great entry for Brandon Sanderson. I'm a huge fan of his and appreciate the story. However, within the first 30 minutes I almost returned the book. The narrator is just horrible. He has a great voice but his character work is the worst I've ever heard. I finished the book in spite of it.

A Sanderson Masterpiece

I first found Sanderson novels through Mistoborn, and have sense started listening to the other novels as well. This story while stand alone is a true gem in epic fantasy that I regret took me so long to experience for the first time.

This narrator was not great.

I got the feeling he could not do any actual accents, and his feminine voices were bad. All voices were inconsistent at times. Great book, not great narration.

The end makes it worth it

The narration is a bit cheesey and the story is slow to mature. Towards the end however, one can find redemption. If one is looking for a story that equals that of mistborn or stormlight in intensity then I would suggest not getting one's hopes up. Elantris is a great story, but I prefer the depth, action, and magnitude of Brandon Sanderson's other works such as
stormlight archive, and mistborn.

great story!

A little slow on the pickup, but definitely worth a listen. The reader could use a little more dynamic range on the women, but it definitely wasn't as distracting as I thought it was going to be. the author does a great job at character and World building. Makes you feel as if you're actually there with the characters rather than just kind of looking at it from a distance.
