Did Nelson DeMille really write this???

The absolute worst written and most boring booking I have listened to! Love Nelson Demille since reading The Generals Daughter in 1992 and John Carey had been one of my favorite characters until this book. Chapters 1 to 20 are him speculating that his old girlfriend may have been secretly setting him up in a job to spy for her and he rehashes the same dialogue over and over. Chapters 21 to at least 25 are more speculation with the ex girlfriend about what May have happened to people a year ago.
My vision of John Carey is a wisecracking, funny, guy who is really good at tracking down and catching bad people. This John Carey is portrayed by the reader as a very serious intense angry man who over analyzes everything….25+ chapters of over analyzing.
For the very 1st time I stopped the book and moved on. I really don’t care. This should have been edited into a short story.

lead character is brutal

usually love david Baldacci but this character is so cliche..sad childhood now an FBI agent, beautiful, Olympian athlete, new found father is a multibillionaire, etc. her dialogue is condensing. maybe if I had read rather than heard it read it would have more tolerable.

Story
Bounty hunter Stephanie Plum is back, packing a whole lot of attitude. This time around, she's on the trail of Kenny Mancuso, a boy from the working-class burg of Trenton, New Jersey, who has just shot his best friend. Fresh out of the Army and suspiciously wealthy, Mancuso's also distantly related to Joe Morelli, a vice cop with questionable ethics, a libido in permanent overdrive, and a habit of horning in on Stephanie's investigations.

Is this the best plum novel?

I am revisiting the series, this time on audiobooks. I read this a while back and after 25 books this is the one of two that I remember most.

The Queen of England has concocted a plan in which penniless aristocrat Lady Georgie is to entertain a Bavarian princess and conveniently place her in the playboy prince's path, in the hopes that he might finally marry.
But queens never take money into account. Georgie has very little, which is why she moonlights as a maid-in-disguise.

Fun story with great narrator

Listening to this series during my commute and they are fun light stories that make my travel much more enjoyable. The highlight is the narrator who does such a great job with each character that they never need introduction.
