Sex and Romance, in Perfect Balance
Reviewed: 12-30-24
This was such a sweet story; two women, slowly realizing that they just HAVE TO ne together. Not the slowest of slow burn romances, but slow enough that the affection and romance was established before they fell into bed together. And then! What sparks! This is one of the best holoday romances I have ever read. Thanks a bunch, E.J. Noyes?

Main characters just fell in love too quickly, for no particular reason. It wasn't developed, with them noticing charming things about each other. They just suddenly fell in the sack, then fell in love. The romantic tension wasn't properly built, layer by layer. Instead, it was just dropped into the middle of the room, "PLOP!" a sappy sodden mess.

A solidly suspenseful whodunnit.

Had hoped for some me pantie-dampening love scenes between the main characters, amid the twists of a suspenseful mystery/thriller. However, the timing of the sex scenes was really awful. It was off-putting in the extreme. Dried me right up. SPOILER ALERT (Read no further if you don't want major plot points ruined for you.) Finn and Sloane choose the absolute worst times to get all horny for each other. Example: Right after Sloane's daughter is almost torched to death by the bad guys, after almost not being rescued from kidnappers. They had just rescued the girl, but Sloane sent her off with her grandparents, so that she and Finn can boink like bunnies. I mean, she almost lost her daughter to either a hail of bullets, or a fiery death, doused with gasoline. And right after that, all she can think to do is fall in bed with Finn. BIG turnoff! Other sex scenes are also inappropriately timed.

I loved that real history was so skillfully woven into the story of these fictional characters. Thought this would be another Rizzoli and Isles mustery, and though it wasn't, I was left more than satisfied with how I spent my credit.

Damn Near Perfect!
Reviewed: 08-15-23
Robin Alexander writes the sweetest, funniest romances. Her characters are better developed than other romances, and they are wacky, and yet totally engagimg and even believable. I love a romance where you want to stand up and cheer for the main characters, and aren't just waiting for the book to progress to the hot, steamy parts. The Lure of White Oak Lake does not disappoint in this regard. This is more than tingly love scenes--though it does quite well in that respect, too. These characters are endearing, and I care what happens to them. And the story arc is not unbelievable, despite the wackiness of the characters of White Oak Lake. This book is thoroughly engaging, and I know that I will return to this book regularly. It is literary comfort food, and there is not one damn thing wrong with that. Indeed, it is damn near perfect!

One sunny Spring morning, EJ's simple life is turned upside down when the town's master gardener unceremoniously hands her a stack of handwritten letters that have all been addressed to a nonexistent person at the garden. This simple act sets in motion a chain of events that will lead EJ on a life-altering quest to uncover the identity of the mysterious letter writer―and into a surprising head-on confrontation with the harsh realities of the racial injustice that is as deeply rooted in the life of her community as the ancient herbs cultivated in the Moravian garden.

Tale of Self-Discovery, Wrapped up in a Mystery

I adored all these characters, and was filled with both joy and sadness at this book's ending. Joy for E.J.'s self-discovery, brought to fruition from the brave acts of opening her heart. Sad for not having more stories to read featuring all these charming characters. The layers of clues revealed throughout E.J.'s odyssey added so much texture to this story, and had me hooked. I was almost sad at the conclusion of the investigation.
Additionally, Christine Williams was the ideal narrator for this book. She displays such astounding talent in rendering so many distinct characters and voices

Steamy, Yet Sweet
Reviewed: 10-30-22
Really enjoyed this. Full of just the right kind of dramatic tension--not the kind that makes you want to throttle one or both of the main characters. This book was a perfect balance of sweetly romantic, steamily sexy, and with a small side order of charmingly comedic. And ALL of it was totally believable. It didn't have that "This could never happen" feel, as so many romance novels do.
Hoping Wilsner writes lots more, as there are only two titles by her available on Audible at this time.

Loathsome Characters
Reviewed: 10-29-22
This was awful! The main character is an emotional mess, and not even in an interesting or sympathetic way. You just want to smack her; she has everything she could want in the palm of her hand, and proceeds to screw it up royally. Not accidentally. Not by a mis-step. She willfully self-sabotages, caring not a whit who she hurts in the process. Seriously! To Hell with that loathsome little twit. Don't waste a credit on this.

Continuing the Sweetest Love Story Ever Told
Reviewed: 10-22-22
Adored this book! Syd and Maddie delight me as much in this book as in Jericho. This book is filled with loveable and memorable characters whom I would like to be able to meet in real life. This is a captivating love story with liberal sprinkles of whimsy. Impossible not to like these characters. I read all four books in the Jericho series last year, and mourned as if my best friend disappeared when I finished the last book.
