Story
From elementary schools to psychotherapy offices, mindfulness meditation is an increasingly mainstream practice. At the same time, trauma remains a fact of life. Drawing on a decade of research and clinical experience, psychotherapist and educator David Treleaven shows that mindfulness meditation - practiced without an awareness of trauma - can exacerbate symptoms of traumatic stress. This raises a crucial question: How can we minimize the potential dangers of mindfulness for survivors while leveraging its powerful benefits?

Brené Brown is one of my favorite authors and story tellers. Really LOVE the way she explains how each emotion starts and develops and examples given. I could listen to this again and again. Honestly her voice and narration are unique! Awesome researcher and narrator too.

Story
Trauma and Recovery is revered as the seminal text on understanding trauma survivors. By placing individual experience in a broader political frame, Harvard psychiatrist Judith Herman argues that psychological trauma is inseparable from its social and political context. Drawing on her own research on incest, as well as a vast literature on combat veterans and victims of political terror, she shows surprising parallels between private horrors like child abuse and public horrors like war.

first part was great 👍

I felt so identified and understood so many things. Moreover, helped me connect the dots. however, second part was just fine. Perhaps is better to read it or if they include a PDF with certain exercises or examples. And the epilogue was ok. I was recommended this book in a webinar about trauma and intervention. It's worth the purchase if you want to understand more about trauma.

I listened to this book, thanks to a dear friend, almost two years ago before I needed a major life change, now I finally purchased it and listened to it again. it helps in moments of fear when I forget I'm not alone in this human journey and that is actually possible to create a life and let the universe guide you to it.

Story
These hilarious essays on life inside and outside a Zen monastery make up the spiritual memoir of Shozan Jack Haubner, a Zen monk who didn’t really start out to be one. Raised in a conservative Catholic family, Shozan went on to study philosophy (becoming de-Catholicized in the process) and to pursue a career as a screenwriter and stand-up comic in the clubs of L.A. How he went from life in the fast lane to life on the stationary meditation cushion is the subject of this laugh-out-loud funny account of his experiences.

I'm a beginner on Zen topics. So, this book taught me a lot. It's always interesting to learn from a westerner perspective what is like to experience a different life. Found it very relatable too. Loved the performance. Thank you.
