All that mattered to Neil as he searched for a safe spot to land was that boulders littered the surface below. “Thirty seconds,” called mission control. This well narrated presentation is a terrific retelling of the events. It could be a perfect introduction to the larger subject of space exploration for anyone who was not yet born during the original excitement of the moon landings.

Story
Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him and forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded and completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he's alive - and even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment, or plainold "human error" are much more likely to kill him first.

Andy Weir has created a
masterpiece of science fiction and horror without anyone dying or being dramatically injured. This will make a great movie!

Story
Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

Awesome Story.
Reviewed: 06-15-15
Hurwitz gives what I believe may be the best description of PTSD and its potential affects on all aspects of life that I have ever heard. The story also depicts the vast amount of support and luck that is needed to get past PTSD - which rarely exists without other issues. (ALS in Nate's case.)
Although this story hypes the drama to expand the plot, critical illness can last decades but it does not need to reduce life's potential or promises.

Americans Should be Proud - Thank You
Reviewed: 10-02-12
Would you listen to No Easy Day again? Why?
This book is an inspiration to trust and believe that our Armed Forces are not only trained to keep us safe but also that their incentives come right from their hearts and not from the politicians or even the various ideologies of this world. I'll listen again when ever I think that there are missions around the world that our leaders think cannot be controlled by military force.
What did you like best about this story?
It struck me from the beginning that the author had absolutely none of the animosity that the US press and his fellow military folks accused him of. Listening to the entire story - especially the last five minutes - proves to me once again that most journalists shoot their mouths off without doing their homework. No secrets are revealed, this guy is not out to make a buck for himself, and the various operations which are described are great adventures. Not to mention that the taxpayers of the USA are about the only ones kept in the dark about these operations. Congress and usually the enemy are all generally fully aware.
Which character – as performed by Holter Graham – was your favorite?
Mr. Graham does a great job with the material but the story didn't lend itself to choosing any one particular character.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I didn't want to but that didn't help me shut down, except for a meal, and then come back for the climax and ending.
Any additional comments?
Awesome weapons experience. Although we know these arsenals are available to our guys, its nice to hear the funds being spent in a manner that protects our men and allows them total advantage day or night - over the enemy. $80,000 Night vision units - Awesome!

I am not able to critique a piece of art (any media) but I know when something is good enough to keep me paying attention for 14 hours with only a few interruptions. That isn't an easy task, but Lee Child, Dick Hill and the fictional Jack Reacher have no problem - No Doubt About It!

In December 2009, Google began customizing its search results for each user. Instead of giving you the most broadly popular result, Google now tries to predict what you are most likely to click on. According to MoveOn.org board president Eli Pariser, Google's change in policy is symptomatic of the most significant shift to take place on the Web in recent years: the rise of personalization.

A Horror Story for all.
Reviewed: 12-20-11
What made the experience of listening to The Filter Bubble the most enjoyable?
Perhaps enjoyable is not the word so much as shocking but the material was well researched and therefore was hard to pause for any length of time. Even as a bit of a geek, there was much information that surprised me. The extent of internet information collection and usage as described in this story scares me more than a nuclear warhead in Iran! It even makes me worry more about the next generation and how little it would take for the wrong people to get their hands on the power of this information for bad purposes. The suggestions for solutions seem lame and difficult to assure.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
In my opinion, there are very few performers who can read these non-fiction titles super effectively. The average reader tends to sound less than excited or perhaps the rehearsal time is shortened which leads to gentle ennui.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Even without paranoia, this book can make the world scary.
Any additional comments?
I enjoyed learning all that was in this book as well as the potential solutions. It is another book that I feel should be mandatory reading at some level in the educational system.

I'm sorry folks, but never has there been a potential national candidate willing to tell us virtually everything about her life and loves. Add her Television show (yea, I know it was created as entertainment by the producer of "Survivor") and you can't help but realize that her extended friends and family over generations have created a real gem in pretty Sarah.
Although she has said she didn't intend to let anyone know if she was running in 2012 until the end of September 2011, our "terribly rude" press continue to act as though she has missed her time. I feel she is saving us millions of dollars while stringing along the press who haven't got anything nice to say about a person who truly wants to make a real change. After she announces her candidacy (I'm assuming) she will hear nothing flattering about anything connected to her. I call this the Kate Smith syndrome - as in the shampoo ad where she said "Don't hate me because I'm Beautiful!"
In this book I also, like others writing reviews, thought that she was a bit heavy on religion during the second half of the book. This will certainly also be used against her - BUT - she continues to refer to the founding Fathers and the Documents which all refer to our God, our Guide, our Protector. These thoughts simply tell me that she agrees with Jefferson and Monroe and FDR, we need someone who can head us back in that direction. In fact, after reading the book, I still do not know what Religion she ascribes to. Simply Christian values. I would love to work with her campaign.

Lincoln McEvoy has a problem. Well, really, he has several, but for this Irish ex-pat bouncer at a seedy, small-time casino, the fact that his girlfriend was just murdered in the parking lot is uppermost in his mind. That is, until lots of people around him start dying, and not of natural causes. Suddenly Linc's got half the New Jersey mob, dirty cops, and his man-crazy upstairs neighbor after him, and he still doesn't know what's going on.

It never ceases to amaze me how an Audible "reading" of a story makes it come so alive. The Irish accent of this narrator is one of my favorites - I suppose it could bore others. But, honestly, after reading the brief and listening to the clip, I can't wait to hear where this story is going. This will be my next purchase.

For two thousand years, cadavers have been involved in science's boldest strides and weirdest undertakings. They've tested France's first guillotines, ridden the NASA Space Shuttle, been crucified in a Parisian laboratory to test the authenticity of the Shroud of Turin, and helped solve the mystery of TWA Flight 800. For every new surgical procedure, from heart transplants to gender reassignment surgery, cadavers have been there alongside surgeons, making history in their quiet way.

Politics, Business, Horror, Geography, Travel, Ecology, Science, Mystery, Economics; this story has it all. Incredibly well narrated. Very apropos to current events - ecological troubles, businesses too big to fail, politics controlling events rather than logic and economics, the cost/benefit of "Big Science", labor problems of all types, and entire nations' economies dependent upon this project and it's jobs.
Surely, during the time period over which the canal was created, the project was on a scale of and maybe larger than America's effort to "land a man on the moon and bring him safely back to earth..."
The connections that I learned during this story that I had never known about. The Soo Locks (I'm in Michigan), health discoveries, the French architect, Eiffel, and the connection with the Suez canal. To think that these 150 year old structures and designs are still working splendidly and how dependent the world economy is on them. Totally amazing.
