Story
We are accustomed to think of sociopaths as violent criminals, but in The Sociopath Next Door, Harvard psychologist Martha Stout reveals that a shocking 4 percent of ordinary people, one in 25, has an often undetected mental disorder, the chief symptom of which is that that person possesses no conscience. He or she has no ability whatsoever to feel shame, guilt, or remorse. One in 25 everyday Americans, therefore, is secretly a sociopath.

Very dryly presented, but good material.

What made the experience of listening to The Sociopath Next Door the most enjoyable?
The subject material and research that went into was interesting, especially if you have interest exploring the absolutely flawed way people are capable of thinking and how surprisingly prominent sociopathy is in society.
What do you think the narrator could have done better?
The reading was extremely dry, flat and lacked any kind of variance. I realize the subject material was serious and needed to presented in a certain way, but long listens were difficult because I would get worn out by the monotonous sound of the narrators voice.

I am not really even sure I understood it, at all. I almost always struggle with audiobooks read in English accents. All the "characters" tend to sound the same to me.

Story
In the tradition of the late, great George Carlin, Corey Taylor, the lead singer of Slipknot and Stone Sour, sounds off in hilarious fashion about the many vagaries of modern life that piss him off. Whether it's people's rude behavior in restaurants and malls, the many indignities of air travel, eye-searingly terrible fashion choices, dangerously clueless drivers, and - most of all - the sorry state of much modern music, Taylor's humor and insight cover civil society's seeming decline.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not recommend this book to a friend, unless they were an absolute diehard fan of CT. He rants a lot, in the vein of say Adam Carolla, but it's just not as interesting or introspective as Adam.
What about Corey Taylor’s performance did you like?
Corey definitely has an easy voice to listen to with a smooth delivery of the topic. I'd be interested in hearing him voice something that he didn't write, as his VO skills are strong.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
I imagine a movie based on this book would be a remake of a Jackass style movie, so no probably not.
Any additional comments?
What happened to the editing near the end? It's like they paid for a set amount of editing and once the amount of time purchased was up, they just stopped. Toward the end you hear Corey make mistakes, repeat lines, etc. All things that should have been edited out of the final copy. Weird.

Story
It's easy for American Christians to forget how Jesus said his followers would actually live, what their new lifestyle would actually look like. They would, he said, leave behind security, money, convenience, even family for him. They would abandon everything for the gospel. They would take up their crosses daily...BUT WHO DO YOU KNOW WHO LIVES LIKE THAT? DO YOU?

Where does Radical rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
Compared to audiobooks on the subject of spiritual strengthening and advancement, it's the best one I have heard. I cant compare it to every book, because books on different topics don't really compare well.
What did you like best about this story?
I like how David Platt gets his points across with such passion. He really puts everything he believes into the things he says and writes.
Have you listened to any of David Platt’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, and I would say this is more of a reading than a performance. The subject matter doesn't really lend to a performance. I wish he would have read it a little more like he preaches, though.

If you could sum up Star Wars: The Force Awakens in three words, what would they be?
It makes me laugh that you're asking me to sum the book up in the 3 words, but there's a 15 word minimum. But, here goes; Fun, Exciting, Adventurous.
What did you like best about this story?
The story is good because it is fresh and not predictable. The constant evolution of the Star Wars saga and creation of characters and storylines is mesmerizing, as usual.
Have you listened to any of Marc Thompson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not heard any of his other performances, so I have nothing to compare it to, but I was very impressed with this narrator and would listen to more of his stuff without hesitation.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
My tagline would be, "This book was made into a film first, but here is my feeble shot at doing something I could never do better than the original". Another funny question.

On the day after Thanksgiving in 1969, Betsy Aardsma, a 22-year-old graduate student in English at Penn State University, was stabbed to death in the stacks of Pattee Library at the university's main campus in the small town of State College. For more than 40 years, her murder went unsolved. Aardsma was smart, pretty and kind, and the Pennsylvania State Police could not figure out why anyone would want to kill her.

A very well researched and presented case!
Reviewed: 11-30-15
What made the experience of listening to Murder in the Stacks the most enjoyable?
Having been associated with Penn State University for most of my life, both as a student and as an employee, it was very interesting to learn more about the subject. I had heard the story of the woman who was murdered in the library, but never new the details that were brought forth so well in this book. Before listening to the book, I had read it about a year before and Eddie Frierson's performance brought the story to life even more. Eddie's characterizations kept the audio version very interesting and entertaining.
What other book might you compare Murder in the Stacks to and why?
Ann Rhule's book "The Stranger Beside Me" about the life of serial killer Ted Bundy. Ann's book is also very well researched, because it is the story of her very own experience with Ted. The research put into Murder In The Stacks makes you feel as though the author had the same personal experience with the people he has written about.
Have you listened to any of Eddie Frierson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
I have not had the pleasure to listen to any of Eddie's other work, but I will say that since hearing his portrayal in this book, I am looking at other titles he has narrated and am considering listening to some of those as well.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
I think the title of the book itself would be a fitting movie tagline. It spells everything out perfectly.
Any additional comments?
I think everyone with interests in Penn State University should consume this book, because this story should be heard and known. Also, anyone who is interested in Pennsylvania history or true crime stories would enjoy this book.

Steeled in his resolve, Chad committed himself to completing the US military’s most difficult training to become a Navy SEAL - and avenge his friend’s death.

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would not, and it's mostly because of how the story is told. I thought it was too linear and simplistically written.
If you’ve listened to books by Chad Williams and David Thomas before, how does this one compare?
To my knowledge, this is their only book. So, I have not read anything else to be able to compare it.
What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?
I liked the fact that the author performed the narration. I felt at times like he was rushing his words, though and I also think he managed to mispronounce a couple of words, which I found odd since he would have originally written them.
Was Seal of God worth the listening time?
Because I had an interest in hearing what the author had to say, yes. If I didn't know anything about Chad and wasn't interested in his story, then I probably wouldn't think it was worth the time.

Story
Dish up the red meat, eggs, and whole milk! In this well-researched and captivating narrative, veteran food writer Nina Teicholz proves how everything we've been told about fat is wrong. For decades, Americans have cut back on red meat and dairy products full of "bad" saturated fats. We obediently complied with nutritional guidelines to eat "heart healthy" fats found in olive oil, fish, and nuts, and followed a Mediterranean diet heavy on fruits, vegetables, and grains. Yet the nation's health has declined. What is going on?

Would you consider the audio edition of The Big Fat Surprise to be better than the print version?
I didn't read the print version, so I can't really say.
What did you like best about this story?
Nina definitely "did her homework" on the research and presented the findings in a way that anyone could understand.
Which character – as performed by Erin Bennett – was your favorite?
This book doesn't really have characters.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No. It's a lot of information to "digest" (pun intended) in one sitting. Or even in long sittings, for that matter.
Any additional comments?
This book provides the blueprint for how everyone should approach their way of eating.

If you could sum up The Accidental Buddhist in three words, what would they be?
If I could sum up this book in three words, they would be funny, interesting and inspiring. The author's skeptical, yet sincere view is witty and entertaining. The subject matter is interesting and is presented in an organized and logical way. The book is inspiring, because it has lead me to also explore further some of the approaches presented here.
What other book might you compare The Accidental Buddhist to and why?
I really haven't read any books that would compared to it.
Have you listened to any of Jack Hawkins’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No, I haven't. I only had one gripe about his reading and that was for his gross mispronunciation of "Yuengling", when referencing Yuengling beer in the story. Thank goodness it only occurred once.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Yes, many laughs. Nothing to cry about, though.
Any additional comments?
Having known the author personally for many years, I just find it to be a shame that he himself didn't narrate the book. His inflection and wit would have come across much stronger, had it been his own performance. But, for most other people that wouldn't matter at all.
