Why do aliens suddenly totally get American slang?

I just felt some of the conversations between the characters were totally unrealistic and I know that’s sort of a paradox because it’s A Work of fiction. But otherwise I enjoyed the book oh and I almost forgot the writer seems to really struggle with coming up with original names I kind of feel like they’re just raping a lot of Greek and Roman mythology I feel the writer based on other merits could standalone without cannibalizing mythology

What was with the narrator

It was really hard to follow the book because the narrator didn’t do a very good job from differentiating between two different characters it would pause awkwardly too often so you thought the chapter ended or the story was over.
