About this listen

Now I have become Death, and my shadow shall consume worlds.

Samantha continues her journey with the Shadow Corps, an elite group of the universe's most deadly warriors. Their journey takes them into dangerous corners of the universe and up against a notorious space pirate and mind-controlling genetically engineered aliens and to the path of the second ancient Guardian of our side of the universe.

Once again Samantha comes out swinging in this action-packed Space Opera with a lite LitRPG angle. With the help of her alien biotech armor, she is able to level up and optimize her skill tree upgrades to bring destruction to evil that lurks in the darkest corners of the universe. She must succeed or see everything she holds dear burn.

Death's Swamp!

Samantha and her Black Ops Intergalactic Team of Assassins prepare for the final battle to be held on Earth. After the battle with the first Space Dragon; aka Guardian, they find there are others. The next Guardian will take them, and Hadrian to the edge of the universe; Shadow Worlds. Samantha must be at her best for this next fight. The almost non-existent LitRPG element of the science-fiction-fantasy tale allows Samantha to level up her armor, aka cloak to continue becoming more powerful. Hadrian is temporarily distracted, so Samantha must take charge of the team to begin additional training. Once Hadrian returns, a species commanding mind manipulation within the Shadow Worlds is the target. The Shadow Worlds are also the home of the space pirates who they must avoid at all costs. The team continues training as they travel to destroy more of their enemies. Tess Irondale is awesome.

Samantha steps up into the role of leader

Sloan has crafted an entertaining and gripping world, and populated it with fascinating characters and deadly villains to keep his heroes occupied. Samantha really comes into her own in this book, and is doing her best to lead her team to victory, but the odds are not in their favor. The question becomes not if they can succeed, but if they can survive. Space pirates and mind controlling aliens are nothing to sneeze at, and she has her hands full trying to keep everyone one alive.

First, I have to say that the cover is eye catching, and makes you wonder what the book is all about. Her biotech armor was certainly the way to go, it is flashy and gorgeous. Take away all the words and it would make one heck of a poster. I cannot say how much I appreciate that it isn't one of those computer morphed photos with a weird background. All I can say is that it makes me want to read the book, and so it does its job well.

Once more, Tess Irondale's narration is simply superb. She vocally embodies Sam, and her rendition of Dex is outstanding, and her portrayal of Ferder is perfection. She manages to aurally manipulate the characters in such slight ways that you may not catch all of her nuances. I put her right with Emily Beresford and Andrea Parsanau as a narrator. She is so excellent to listen to that you will be captivated by her voice.

The writing is the same, there is character growth, plot development, and a few twists and turns that will leave you out of breath. I often found myself wondering what was coming next, and was always happy with the way things unfolded (maybe not for the characters, but more for the story line). Sloan certainly knows how to write. I love the direction this series is taking and can't wait for the next book! Even though I did receive a promo code for this review it in no way influenced my considerations of the material, and honestly, inspired me to be more honest. In fact, getting a code generally makes me harsher as a reviewer as I am more often concerned what someone like Me will decide based on my review.

Why do aliens suddenly totally get American slang?

I just felt some of the conversations between the characters were totally unrealistic and I know that’s sort of a paradox because it’s A Work of fiction. But otherwise I enjoyed the book oh and I almost forgot the writer seems to really struggle with coming up with original names I kind of feel like they’re just raping a lot of Greek and Roman mythology I feel the writer based on other merits could standalone without cannibalizing mythology
