Story
For years, I’ve tried to keep my distance from Dakota Cooper. She’s everything I’ve ever wanted and the one thing I can’t have. But when she calls me in the middle of the night after someone tries to break into her house, I can no longer handle that distance, and I convince her to stay with me, along with her young son. I should have known having her living under my roof would push me to the edge. Ignite the need that has simmered for so long.

Phenomenal!

Ryder and Dakota's lives have always been intertwined. He is her oldest brother's best friend and has been protective of her since a very young age. They might have grown up as friends, but Dakota's heart has always belonged to him and always will.
Even now that she is a single mom to the most adorable kid, she orbits towards Ryder. But he is convinced he is not worthy of her because of his bad-boy past. There is no question they belong together, and they are meant to be. And when someone lurks at night threatening the safety of Dakota and Kayden, Ryder swoops in and takes them to their house because they will always come first.
I love how A.L. Jackson structured the story, going back and forth between the present and the past, giving glimpses of how they came to be. Theirs is a long friends-to-lovers story filled with angst and suspense. The small town setting is utterly perfect and another reason that makes this story dreamy. If that wasn't enough, it brings all the feels.
The icing on the cake was catching up with Caleb, Paisley, and little Evelyn. Their story is told in Love Me Today (book 1 of Time River), which I adored.
The narration by Samantha Brentmoor and Connor Crais is phenomenal! THE perfect Dakota and Ryder

Phenomenal narration of a story that feels real
Reviewed: 06-11-24
I'm so happy Christopher Rice ventured into romance. His storytelling is superb, featuring intricate writing, in-depth character development, and a thorough exploration of complex topics. He approaches subjects and situations meticulously and reverently, leaving nothing to chance.
Sapphire Spring is an MM second-chance, redemption romance. Naser Kazemithe comes face-to-face with Mason Worther, who bullied him all through high school, while at an event at Sapphire Cove, the exclusive resort in Southern California where he works.
Facing the past is never easy, but Naser is not the scared kid and insecure teenager he used to be. When an opportunity for payback arises, Naser sees beyond Mason's façade and recognizes he is also a victim. Mason's story is heartbreaking, marked by an emotionally abusive father, substance abuse, low self-worth, and an utter sense of loss.
Naser, too, has complex family dynamics magnified by cultural differences, which make his story so much richer. Both have demons and fears to face. Mason doesn't rush into his recovery and bears his soul for others to see. His growth and introspection throughout the book are mesmerizing, making him feel real.
The audiobook is a real treat, made perfect by Christopher Rice's narration. It just gives Sapphire Spring an extra layer of awesomeness.

Story
In the 1990s, Carter Wills was the lead singer of the English alt-rock band Mayluna, securing his place among music legends. His tortured-heart lyrics struck a chord. And so did his secret connection to a woman whose love changed all their lives. Who was she? Evie Waters’s two grown children discover an iconic photo in an old magazine of a “mystery girl” with Carter: their mother. It all started in a wistful time and place for Evie, her twenty-fifth summer.

Poignant and beautiful

Mayluna is an experience. It requires you to jump in and feel the joy, the rush, the wreckage, and everything in between. There is heartbreak, followed by a silent void (that's what happens to me when I'm shocked). And yet, I wouldn't change anything about this book, which I'm now profoundly in love with.
Writing such a raw, heart-punching story takes courage and immense talent. Kelley McNeil shows she has both in spades. Carter and Evie are everything, and I dare anyone not to fall in love with "these two damaged people making each other whole."
McNeil's writing took me back to Long Island beaches, New York Summer concerts, and the 90s musical scene. But, above all, it gave me an epic love story that has earned a top spot among my favorite reads. I also have the mother of all book hangovers, which only confirms how impactful Carter and Evie's story is.
Everything about this book is impactful: the words, the incredible narration by Amanda Leigh Cobb and Kevin Kemp, and even the playlist (now on repeat).

Luke Evans is a heartbreaker. I didn't want to give mine to him. Not when he kept me out. He gave me enough, just enough to make me fall in love with him. I say this to convince myself. But I know the truth. I would've fallen in love with him at a distance. Handing my heart over to Luke was the easiest thing I've ever done.

It started as a summer fling
Reviewed: 08-19-23
It started as a casual hookup. And it grew into so much more. But Luke and Tessa's biggest issue is communication. Both protect their hearts, feeling the other should know there is love even when they don't say the words. Their relationship ends after a pregnancy scare. She is mad because he doesn't want kids; he is furious because she didn't tell him.
All I Want starts months after their breakup. They are still in love but can't let the past go and keep hurting each other. There is that push and pull that I can definitely relate to. It's that time of hate/love relationship that makes no sense, but at the same time, it does. Because trying to move on without addressing the real issues only makes things messier.
Luke and Tessa bicker and fight. All. The. Time. So I'm not going to deny that I wanted to slap some sense into both. But the more Luke shows his past, the easier he is to understand. Tessa gets him and indirectly interferes, showing her love. He is also there for her at the moment she needs him the most.
Theirs is not an easy or smooth journey. But it feels real, and when it finally happens, it's pure magic. Kudos to Stella Bloom and Eric Michael for bringing the characters to life! It made the rereading of this book special.

Favorite summer read!
Reviewed: 08-08-23
Where I Belong is the one book that always comes to mind when I think of summer. The mix of tropes is pure perfection: enemies-to-lovers, best friend's brother, single dad, and small town. And its main character, Ben Kelly, is the ultimate book boyfriend. Who can get over Ben-nine-inch-Kelly?
This is the book that introduced me to J. Daniels's writing, prompting an epic binge reading and an almost compulsive need to own all the editions of her books. While I'll be forever a fan of the Alabama Summer series, Where I Belong is the one story I always go back to.
It has the most epic, hilarious, and scorching beginning. Mia Corelli decides to give away her v-card to a stranger met in a bar, just before starting her summer. A one-night-stand, no names exchanged. Just five explosive and memorable orgasms for her to treasure forever.
Only to discover the next day that the sexy stranger is no stranger at all. Well, he is not the Ben Kelly she remembers. The now hot as sin cop is her best friend's oldest brother. The very one who used to torment her when growing up, and the person she despites the most in the world.
But he is also the dad to the cutest three-year-old boy. Nolan is adorable and steals the show in this and every book that follows.
It doesn't matter if I read the book or listen to the audio (great narration by Stella Bloom and Eric Michael Summerer), When I Belong always manages to make me smile and put me in the best summer mood.

I had never read any of K.K. Allen's books. So I wasn't sure what I was getting myself into when I started Dangerous Hearts. And now, I'm completely obsessed with the story, and I can't wait to read the second book of the series. It's the perfect romance, one of those books you can't simply put down because you need to know what happens next. And the narration by Lynn Barrington and John Masterson is great!
Lyric Cassidy has known the music business all her life. The daughter of an 80's rock star and pop singer, she loves music too much to stay away from the stage and the rock scene. She has made a name for herself as a successful road manager, a role that allows her to be connected to music without being in the spotlight.
Running away from her ex-boyfriend and with a broken heart, Lyric jumps back onto the road as the road manager of Wolf Chapman. She is convinced work will help her heal and focus. After all, Wolf is the lead singer for the hottest rock back in the country. He is not looking for a relationship (never has) and only does one-night stands. But destiny is a powerful thing.

The end of an epic rockstar love story
Reviewed: 05-10-23
A Stolen Melody Duet is the one series by KK Allen that I always recommend. I've never been able to forget Wolf and Lyric since I read their epic story in 2017. Back then, I had to wait months for the second book to release. And after the ending of Dangerous Hearts, I was not ok!
Destined Hearts is fast-paced and intense. So much happens after Lyric is offered two choices: either go back on tour with Wolf but with a lesser role or resign and be out of a job. Lyric loves her job, the one constant over the past ten years, and the place where she has made a name for herself and away from her famous parents.
Wolf's trust in Lyric has been compromised. They both have to deal with their feelings and the lingering hurt and fears from their pasts. They belong together, yet their journey is heartbreaking. When Lyric finally lets Wolf in, it is pure magic! They were already hot and steamy in the first book, but they are simply scorching here.
The characters are amazing, with Mitch Cassidy taking the top spot! Crawley is despiteful and a creep. And Destiny... well, she is a handful. A lot happens in this book, and there is no shortage of drama. But love, music, and the truth eventually prevail.
For my reread of the series, I listened to the audiobook. I really enjoyed Lynn Barrington and John Masterson's narration. They really embodied Lyric and Wolf!

Resting Scrooge Face is a short, cut, and fun Christmas novella. It's a festive second chance story, perfect for getting in the holiday spirit and reading with a hot drink under a cozy blanket.
Caleb has become the town Scrooge since Nola, his ex-high-school sweetheart, returned to town. He had broken up with her before leaving Bright Harbor, Maine, to move to New York City. She is the one who got away, and he regrets it to this day.
Add a meddling old postman, who takes a letter written and trashed by Caleb and delivers it to Nola. They start a pen pal exchange over their dislike for Christmas and its traditions without knowing who the other is.
Carly Robins and Aaron Shedlock did a fantastic job with the narration, bringing Nola and Caleb to life.

The Stopover is hilarious! Emily Foster meets "Jim" on a trip from London to NYC after being upgraded to first class. They hit it off and the innuendoes and banters turn into a steamy one-night-stand when their flight is rerouted to Boston because of weather conditions.
A year later, Emily moves to New York for her dream job. On her first day, she gets a tour of the Miles Media building and, being lucky, gets to meet the CEO. Do you want to guess who he is? No other than billionaire and media mogul Jameson Miles, who also happens to be stopover Jim! Both try to avoid the attraction, but it is impossible to resist. Their chemistry is sizzling, and they are hot together.
Emily is so right for him. She is unimpressed by his wealth and antics and has no issue calling him out. And she is THE person to understand and complement bossy and very alpha Jameson. Their secret affair develops as both discover someone has been stealing Miles Media stories and selling them to the competition. So there is a bit of a mystery added to the mix.
There are so many funny moments... including a weekend camping trip to New Jersey. Trust me when I say this book made me laugh so hard that I had tears. While I didn't like Jameson and his entourage turning so quickly to judge Emily, her indecision and nativity frustrated me towards the end. Like, come on!
The audiobook is so good. The narrations by Sebastian York and CJ Bloom are outstanding, enhancing the reading experience and bringing Jameson and Emily to life.

Unfortunately, she can't seem to get that through to Kellach Dunne. Wicked Ride surprised me. I didn't know I would like this book so much. I rarely read PNR, yet I found myself obsessing about these characters. Witches, shifters, vampires, and demons? Yes, please! I'm seriously hooked on this series. I listened to the audiobook and could become addicted to Brock Thompson's voice. His range is impressive, and even his Irish accent is swoony.
Kellach Dunne is an Irish enforcer for the Coven Nine, currently undercover in Seattle and looking for a drug that could be used against witches. He has infiltrated Titans of Fire, a one-percent club involved in the drug and arms trade. Albeit bossy and broody, he oozes charm.
Detective Alexandra Monzelle is fierce and sassy. Entirely focused on her job, she is determined to prove she is nothing like her father, a former drug lord who ruined lives, including her mother's. But, with a strong sense of duty, she's not afraid of anyone. Not even the 6' 5" biker who is part of the club she believes is distributing the new drug flooding the streets.
They clash, arguing non-stop. Their exchanges are hilarious, and the tension is super steamy. Lex knows she has the law on her side. Except, there is a whole different world with very different rules she doesn't know about. Lex and Kell are protectors with dominating personalities. They are equal, even when everything in their worlds says differently. They have a common enemy. Yet, it takes them a while to work together. And mostly, Lex's stubbornness gets in the way, which sometimes annoyed me.
What can I say? I'm invested. The side characters are unique, and I can't wait to get the other Dunne brothers' stories. I think I'm in for a treat.
