Huge impact for nice guys

My 41-year marriage to a 98-percent-of-the-time terrific guy that I loved and 2-present-of the-time angry, raging, relationship-damaging terrible guy that I hated (mostly over sex & money & his insecurity that put so much pressure on me)...has for the first time given me hope. All I ever said to him before glanced off of him. All the suppressed anger of my own raged inside. But this book appears to be having a profound effect on him and we've had conversations I never thought possible ...where it is safe to say what I really think about these don't-talk-about-it topics and he really listens and gets it and apologizes (shocking) and really understands. This book is POWERFUL!

Not hard hitting like midnight library. It's a fantasy trying to persuade reader to protect the environment
Reviewed: 01-03-25
I was hoping this book by the same author would be as insightful and transforming in my thinking as the midnight library. But it wasn't. It's merely a nice story, a fantasy intended to promote protection of the environment, and to preach the philosophy that we humans are the environment and the universe; all shared molecules. These are good themes but not thought provoking or enlightening or insightful, at least not to me.

Story
Spain's position on Europe's southwestern corner has exposed it to cultural, political and actual winds blowing from all quadrants. Africa lies a mere nine miles to the south. The Mediterranean connects it to the civilisational currents of Phoenicians, Romans, Carthaginians and Byzantines as well as the Arabic lands of the Near East. Hordes from the Russian steppes were amongst the first to arrive. They would be followed by Visigoths, Arabs, Napoleonic armies and many more invaders and immigrants.

Somewhere out beyond the edge of the universe there is a library that contains an infinite number of books, each one the story of another reality. One tells the story of your life as it is, along with another book for the other life you could have lived if you had made a different choice at any point in your life. While we all wonder how our lives might have been, what if you had the chance to go to the library and see for yourself? Would any of these other lives truly be better? In The Midnight Library, Nora Seed finds herself faced with this decision.

It gave me ideas as a plan in addition on my house, but just OK
Reviewed: 01-04-23
The main reason I listened to this book was because it was the only one I could find on Audible that was about home design. I could never have read this book if it were a physical book because it did not have a lot of punch points for me. But listening to it while I was doing some thing else was helpful. It helped me think about some things I hadn't thought of, and I was able to make a lot of notes about what I want or don't want in my new addition on my house.

A cluster of five countries, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica, are commonly referred to as Central America. Although these nations differ in their histories and politics, they share at least one factor; they have been caught up in the turmoil of America's foreign policy in this region. This audiobook depicts the chain of events that have led to the Central America we view on television.

This book had the right amount of detail (and only 2 hours long), so I got the gist of events and various view points without getting bogged down in details like longer books do. It started way back and ended with Regan presidency. I liked quotes being relayed as recordings or actor performances of actual historical people because it made it more interesting and broke up the sameness of the narrator's voice.

Good but author too crazy about Betty to be balanced presentation
Reviewed: 03-08-22
Author is so gushy about Betty White that book can't possibly be a true representation of the real human being Betty White. I'd have preferred a more real-life, well-rounded view of Betty White. I didn't care for the quizzes at end of chapters. I want to be given information, not quizzed and scored. At the end, readers are even belittled if they didn't score high enough to honor Betty. I listened on Audible to the book. The book does a good job of presenting Betty White's career.
