Wonderful advice on an extremely important topic. Should be read by everyone. If we all tried to do this the world would be a much better place.

This is a very honest account of the author’s inner as well as outwardly observable life journeys. Really makes you think about just what life is all about.

Relayed in his own unsparing voice, Demon braves the modern perils of foster care, child labor, derelict schools, athletic success, addiction, disastrous loves, and crushing losses.

So well written and insightful. It really pulls you in, although sometimes that’s the last place you want to be. A real sense of triumph at the end. So much to think about.

Story
Helene Wecker's dazzling debut novel tells the story of two supernatural creatures who appear mysteriously in 1899 New York. Chava is a golem, a creature made of clay, brought to life by a strange man who dabbles in dark Kabbalistic magic. When her master dies at sea on the voyage from Poland, she is unmoored and adrift as the ship arrives in New York Harbor. Ahmad is a jinni, a being of fire, born in the ancient Syrian Desert. Trapped in an old copper flask by a Bedouin wizard centuries ago, he is released accidentally by a tinsmith in a Lower Manhattan shop.

I haven’t enjoyed a book so much in quite a while. I found it absolutely captivating. I loved all the characters and couldn’t wait to see what happens to them. Different, strange, yet familiar. Extremely well done by author and narrator.
