Story
Time ran out on climate change. Super-storms. Government surveillance and breakdown. Tech whisperer Dee Baker seeks safety. Weather disasters spin out of control. Food prices skyrocket. Refugees spill everywhere, including Americans fleeing the dust bowl, floods, and hurricanes. Congress has a plan, the Calm Act. Its public face is martial law. The secret measures are worse. It seems like a no-nonsense look at a very plausible and the near future in front of the world. I wonder if we will do as well, or if we will head into a darker mad-maxian version.
Not my usual fare, I thoroughly enjoyed this. I look forward to continuing on into Ms Booth's vision of humanity's future, and seeing what becomes of Dee Baker.

A must read for any drummer, or motorcycle rider.

A must read for any drummer, or motorcycle rider. Thankfully, I am both. As well as a life long fan of Mr. Peart. I only wish he could have enjoyed his life's accomplishments, in his post-Rush years, a little more fully. His mind, his voice, his words and his talent, will be sorely missed.

Karr is a teenage boy like many others in the galaxy. He goes to school, helps his parents with the family business, likes speeders and droids. But Karr also has a secret: When he touches certain objects, he gets searing headaches and blacks out. And along with the pain sometimes come visions of people he doesn't know and places he's never been. Karr's parents worry that he's sick; his grandmother is convinced the visions come from the Force. But it's been years since anyone has heard from the last of the Jedi - Luke Skywalker. Are there any Jedi left to guide Karr?

What a facinating tale. A bit off the beaten path, but a nice, insightful tale.
