Story
An unlikely duo—Professor Peter Singer, a preeminent philosopher and professor of bioethics, and Venerable Shih Chao-Hwei, a Taiwanese Buddhist monastic and social activist—join forces to talk ethics in lively conversations that cross oceans, overcome language barriers, and bridge philosophies. The eye-opening dialogues collected here share unique perspectives on contemporary issues like animal welfare, gender equality, the death penalty, and more. Together, these two deep thinkers explore the foundation of ethics and key Buddhist concepts.

The conversation we all needed to hear
Reviewed: 12-22-23
I enjoyed the two voices reading which made it move smoothly. However the best part came in the authors. To listen to an intellectual discussion that at times respected disagreement was brilliant. Challenged my thoughts. Sadhu, sadhu, sadhu.

Story
From elementary schools to psychotherapy offices, mindfulness meditation is an increasingly mainstream practice. At the same time, trauma remains a fact of life. Drawing on a decade of research and clinical experience, psychotherapist and educator David Treleaven shows that mindfulness meditation - practiced without an awareness of trauma - can exacerbate symptoms of traumatic stress. This raises a crucial question: How can we minimize the potential dangers of mindfulness for survivors while leveraging its powerful benefits?

Required reading for Meditation teachers
Reviewed: 12-01-21
Trauma is the one area that doesn’t get covered enough in meditation teacher classes. This book wonderfully covers so many aspects of trauma and gives teachers guidance on signs and how to handle various situations. As a teacher who focuses on teenagers, this will become my yearly textbook. Thank you.

Breakfast with Buddha takes the classic American road trip novel and marries it with man’s search for meaning. The philosophy is subtle and invites you to question your thoughts as Otto does the same. Well paced and a good balance of the buddy novel with a philosophical dialogue.

Story
In 2009, Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed at the Super Bowl's halftime show. The experience was so exhilarating that Bruce decided to write about it. That's how this extraordinary autobiography began. Over the past seven years, Bruce Springsteen has privately devoted himself to writing the story of his life, bringing to this audio the same honesty, humor, and originality found in his songs.

While this book stands on its own, hearing Bruce tell you his life story was amazing. He paces the book wonderfully. Perhaps he could have shared a few closer details, but that is nitpicking. Well worth the listen.
