Then he gave the genre a darkly compelling contemporary twist in his trilogy of the Word and the Void. Last year, in Armageddon’s Children, Brooks undertook the stunning chronicle that united two unique worlds.

Really enjoy this series.

I read the original SWORD OF SHANNARA when it first came out in 1978 - I think. Then the other two when they came out, then life hit me with a large board, and I stopped the series. About 5 years ago I found THE WORD AND THE VOID series and read that. Now I’m moving on through all the rest of these books… what fun to see that an old friend has grown up, just like I did. <><

It's DS Logan McRae's first day back on the job after a year off on the sick, and it couldn't get much worse. There's a serial killer stalking the Granite City, and the local media are baying for blood. Soon the dead are piling up in the morgue almost as fast as the snow on the streets, and Logan knows time is running out. More children are going missing. More are going to die.

Reviewed: 07-08-23
I think the best thing about this series is the “family” atmosphere of the characters. They all worry about and help each other. Life is tough, but having so many coworkers who are there for you no matter what makes it worth it.

The summary tells you what the book is about, but the end is definitely not anything at all close to what I expected. Great read!.
I’d say the only problem with this book is that sometimes you have to put it down to eat and sleep, which is hard to do. Highly recommend.

If any artist could brag about his contribution to the pop culture canon, it’s Smokey Robinson. His career is filled with so many “he was there” moments it’s a wonder he doesn’t recall them with the swagger of a conquering hero: songwriting and singing as a teenager in Detroit; co-founding Motown Records with Berry Gordy; creating 26 Top 40 hits with his group The Miracles; helping to spark racial integration of popular music in the 1960s; discovering hitmakers like Diana Ross and the Supremes; penning tunes for a jaw-droppingly diverse group of artists.

Story
Every year has its share of notable events, but some years seem to capture the essence of a decade in a handful of months. The year 1954 is one such year. It began in January with a celebrity marriage heard round the world and then progressed through a series of major political, social, and cultural milestones that would echo through the next several decades. The years following World War II were a time of increased wealth and confidence, years that saw the rise of a solid, increasingly powerful middle class in America.

I downloaded this one cause I just couldn’t figure out how 1954 could have been so important. I just don’t remember it being that impressive. But a lot built up then culminated in ‘54. Very well done, interesting to see the “historical” side of a year that just slipped past while I was living my life.

The story is good, the language is not
Reviewed: 06-25-19
While I did like the book, some of the language drove me nuts. Characters were using curse words that were not even created at the time the book takes place.
Story does get a bit grim, and does tend toward gruesome, but the storyline is good, and moves at a good pace. A good story, but definitely not for everyone. <><
