Good Trilogy, Crazy Abrupt Ending
Reviewed: 07-03-23
Look, I loved the series. Great story.
But every book (Dust being the most egregious of the three) is all about a long, drawn out build up, with a very quick, efficient, and in this case unsatisfying conclusion.
I kept looking at the book countdown on my app and thinking ‘there’s only 25 minutes left in this thing, how the hell can this thing get wrapped up in that time?’
The answer is, not well.
Huey does such a good job of developing these characters. So when their individual (and their corresponding group’s) story reaches its conclusion, you want to feel every moment with them. But you don’t get that chance. It’s so rushed with potential key storylines just kicked to the side.
These characters deserved better. The reader/listener deserved better.

It’s Not Worth Your Time
Reviewed: 01-28-22
You’ve read the synopsis. You think might be a good book. You like the premise.
And you’re right, it should be a good book.
But oh boy, it is not. This is straight trash. Bad writing, bad character development, plot holes you could drive an 87 Chevy Suburban through.
The main character is an unlikeable dope. Every other character is worthless.
The story meanders here and there and all over the place. It’s like the author had a word count he needed to hit and fell well short, so he jammed in some random useless subplots to hit his mark.
And the last few chapters and conclusion? Good Lord it is so, so bad.
So if you’re like me and you read reviews and think, oh man it can’t be that bad. Trust me. It is that bad. Go find something else. Right now. Move on. Save yourself while there is still time

Best in the series
Reviewed: 08-11-20
This series has been a rollercoaster. The first book in the series was good. The second was plain awful and frankly I’m surprised I made it to the third. I’m glad I did because it was much, much better.
This book - the fourth in the series - is the best of the bunch. These books have a recipe - the main A story intermixed with a B story as the protagonist tries to balance two missions at once. The A story in this book was well developed and was an incredible listen. The B story was just as complex and interesting as the A story (if not more so).
The only drawback is the love interest which is cliche and a little lame. I get it, you need our hero to be a little love sick to mix things up a bit but it’s a little tiring at times.
Overall highly, highly recommend.

Story
Nate Overbay, a former soldier suffering from PTSD and ALS, goes to an 11th-floor bank and climbs out the bathroom window onto the ledge, ready to end it all. But as he’s steeling himself to jump, a crew of gunmen bursts into the bank and begins viciously shooting employees and customers. With nothing to lose, Nate climbs back inside, confronts the robbers, and with his military training, starts taking them out, one by one. The last man standing leaves Nate with a cryptic warning: “He will make you pay in ways you can’t imagine.” Soon enough, Nate learns what this means.

Solid story and narration

This was my first Hurwitz book and I enjoyed it thoroughly. Great drama with a few edge of your seat moments.
As a father of three, this book did make me feel grateful all of my kids are boys. The protagonist's teenage daughter was a massive pain in the ass and there were (many) moments in this book I caught myself hoping the Ukrainians would catch her.
Joking. Kind of.

Story
The folks in Mike Erikson's small New England town would say he's just your average, everyday guy. And that's exactly how Mike likes it. Sure, the life he's chosen isn't much of a challenge to someone with his unique gifts, but he's content with his quiet and peaceful existence. That is, until an old friend presents him with an irresistible mystery, one that Mike is uniquely qualified to solve.

Fun Listen
Reviewed: 06-07-15
First off, Ray Porter could read the phone book and I would give it 3 stars. Enough said.
This was an enjoyable listen. Clines can weave a story well and his action scenes are impressive.
For those that are confused with the ending, I suggest you read Clines' first novel. I'll leave it at that.
Certainly worth the credit.
