Story
The good news is that Joe Pickett has his job back. The bad news is that he's come to learn that a drone is killing wildlife - and the drone belongs to a mysterious and wealthy man whose grandson is dating Joe's own daughter, Lucy. When Joe tries to lay down the rules for the drone operator, he's asked by the FBI and the DOJ to stand down, which only makes him more suspicious. Meanwhile, bodies are piling up in and around Joe's district in shocking numbers. He begins to fear that a pack of four vicious killers working on behalf of the Sinaloa cartel known as the Wolf Pack have arrived.

As usual, another enjoyable Joe Pickett story. Stretches credulity frequently, but still fun, although bloodier than most.

what a great story!!

Wasn't sure I would like this, but the author developed characters and described circumstances so well that the book just roped me in. The relationships were true and the romance (not usually my thing) was believeable.
the only discirdant note was the Christmas story, but even that was okay and clearly contributed to the overall story.
Really a very good listen - kudos to the narrator, who was on for every character!

This book is a very entertaining listen. I commend the narrator, who brought it to life, voicing each character effectively. Ken Follett always develops a tight story line, staying (sometimes just) within credulity and delivering lots of action. Great story!

Virgil Flowers kicked around for a while before joining the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension. First it was the army and the military police, then the police in St. Paul, and finally Lucas Davenport brought him into the BCA, promising him, "We'll only give you the hard stuff." He's been doing the hard stuff for three years now, but never anything like this.

Story
A middle-aged man returns to his childhood home to attend a funeral. He is drawn to the farm at the end of the road, where, when he was seven, he encountered a most remarkable girl, Lettie Hempstock. Forty years earlier, a man committed suicide in a stolen car at this farm at the end of the road. Like a fuse on a firework, his death lit a touchpaper and resonated in unimaginable ways. The darkness was unleashed, something scary and thoroughly incomprehensible to a little boy. And Lettie - magical, comforting, wise beyond her years - promised to protect him, no matter what.
