Unexpected revelation about self-discovery through love and loss
Reviewed: 03-11-25
This was an unexpected revelation about self discovery through love and loss that is relatable, even if we do not have the same exact issues. The author provides tools to tackle our my issues that are holding me back from fully realizing my potential. She disusses how we may give our power away, even when we know we should wear the crown. Happy reading queen-sister! Thanks Jess!!

Story
In 2015, Arlan Hamilton was on food stamps and sleeping on the floor of the San Francisco airport, with nothing but an old laptop and a dream of breaking into the venture capital business. She couldn’t understand why people starting companies all looked the same (white and male), and she wanted the chance to invest in the ideas and people who didn’t conform to this image of how a founder is supposed to look. Hamilton had no contacts or network in Silicon Valley, no background in finance - not even a college degree. What she did have was fierce determination and the will to succeed.

Story
In 1927, Zora Neale Hurston went to Plateau, Alabama, just outside Mobile, to interview 86-year-old Cudjo Lewis. Of the millions of men, women, and children transported from Africa to America as slaves, Cudjo was then the only person alive to tell the story of this integral part of the nation's history. Hurston was there to record Cudjo's firsthand account of the raid that led to his capture and bondage 50 years after the Atlantic slave trade was outlawed in the United States. In 1931, Hurston returned to Plateau, the African-centric community three miles from Mobile.

Story
In his landmark best seller The Tipping Point, Malcolm Gladwell redefined how we understand the world around us. Now, in Blink, he revolutionizes the way we understand the world within. Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, about choices that seem to be made in an instant, in the blink of an eye, that actually aren't as simple as they seem. Why are some people brilliant decision makers, while others are consistently inept?

Another homerun
Reviewed: 09-23-15
Malcolm Gladwell is one of my fave authors because he makes me think through my own beliefs through the prism of his adaptations of narratives that hit the nail on the head with out-of-the-box thinking. Blink is no exception. I often don't trust my instincts but will certainly do so more now. I am an overthinker to the highest degree when it comes to my business. I need to jump in and just go for it more often with my ideas. After 15 years of minor successes and mediocrity I have nothing to lose.
