Great way to honor our military veterans.

The stories told within this book are those of a counselor working on military bases with those returning from or beginning deployment. From her beginnings as a civilian outsider to someone embraced by and embracing our military. It’s important work.

Story
In 2022, Lisa Marie Presley asked her daughter to help finally finish her long-gestating memoir. A month later, Lisa Marie was dead, and the world would never know her story in her own words, never know the passionate, joyful, caring, and complicated woman that Riley loved and now grieved. Riley got the tapes that her mother had recorded for the book, lay in her bed, and listened as Lisa Marie told story after story about smashing golf carts together in the yards of Graceland, about the unconditional love she felt from her father, about being upstairs, just the two of them.

Very interesting

I found it interesting to hear of Lisa Marie’s struggles during her life. I was always aware of her, mainly as Elvis’ daughter and her marriage to MJ, but didn’t realize how she struggled after her father’s death and never fully recovered from it. Narration was excellent!

Love her even more
Reviewed: 02-27-25
I have always been fascinated by Cher. Watched Sonny and Cher as a child; and followed her, or at least been somewhat aware of most of the celebrity moments of her life. I didn’t know she was so relatable, funny, shy… This book made me love her even more. I really enjoyed it and can’t wait for part two.

Story
Considered to be French novelist Victor Hugo's masterpiece, Les Miserables, which was published in 1862, is a sprawling historical and philosophical epic that covers from 1815 through the Paris Uprising in 1832. Notable for its many subplots and digressions from the main storyline, the novel's stated aim is a progress from evil to good, from injustice to justice, from falsehood to truth, which can be seen most clearly in the story of the central character Jean Valjean, an ex-convict who struggles to shake the sins of his past and become a good man.

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this book. It did take a long time, but I loved it. Although I had heard of the book/play/movie, all I knew was that it was really long. I was unaware of the great story. I am sorry it took me this long to discover it for myself.

Story
Don and Mimi Galvin seemed to be living the American dream. After World War II, Don's work with the Air Force brought them to Colorado, where their 12 children perfectly spanned the baby boom: the oldest born in 1945, the youngest in 1965. In those years, there was an established script for a family like the Galvins—aspiration, hard work, upward mobility, domestic harmony. But behind the scenes was a different story: psychological breakdown, sudden shocking violence, hidden abuse. By the mid-1970s, six of the 10 Galvin boys, one after another, were diagnosed as schizophrenic.

I really didn’t know what to expect when I purchased the title but was hoping for something uplifting, this is not. I almost stopped several times thinking, this is all just sad and tragic. I did finish the book, but have mixed feelings about it. I would not recommend it if you like uplifting stories because every character is a bit of a train wreck.

Ms Cheney has provided information that every American, regardless of political affiliation, should learn. The actions of our nominated leaders at the highest levels put our Democracy at risk. The nation is founded on the principles of democracy and these principles mean nothing to those who act as these men and women have. What is really important to us as a nation, our freedoms or an alliance to a dangerous man?
