Straddle in for a nonstop ride
Reviewed: 03-25-25
The Violator is back. From a relentless thrill ride at the beginning, the Gray Man does not disappoint. The usual characters are there: Zoya, Zach, Hanley. Wanna ride a train hijacked by Court? That is what this entire Audible ride felt like. Rogue? No way. He is a man on a mission, and do not get in his way. An outstanding listen! When is Gray Man no. 15? With a new job??

Story
The campaign of destruction that Axel Soledad and Dallas Cates wreaked on Nate Romanowski and Joe Pickett left both men in tatters, especially Nate, who lost almost everything. Wondering if the civilized life left him vulnerable to attack, Nate dropped off the grid with his falcons in tow to prepare for vengeance. When Joe gets a call from the governor asking for help finding his son-in-law, who has gone missing in the Sierra Madre mountain range, he enlists the help of a local, a rookie game warden named Susan Kany.

Another great Joe Pickett adventure, with outstanding narration by David Chandler (as usual). I particularly love the details about the “family of Marines” and references to the Abbey Gate disaster (kind of stuff that ties these stories to the real world). Semper Fi.

Evan Smoak is a highly trained former government assassin who has survived for years by keeping his circle to a few trusted confidants and a strict code he calls “The Ten Commandments.” But when Evan suddenly finds himself at odds with his oldest friend, all the rules he lives by shatter—and the consequences are murderous. Tommy Stojack might be Evan's best friend in the world. He’s a gifted gunsmith who has created much of Evan's own weapons and combat gear. But now, he has apparently crossed one of Evan's hardest lines and their argument explodes into open warfare.

Orphan X is back with a vengence
Reviewed: 02-11-25
An outstanding ride with Evan Smoak. I thought it started a little off track, seemingly with a more emotional connection than we have seen Evan have, but things turn and Orphan X is back with his usual vengeance (and his rules), focused on rendering the problem into a vegetative state. I loved the challenge coin being fixed near the end. Please Gregg, get started on the next one.

Duffy rocks but he was overshadowed by poor narration. Time to get Jay Snyder in this series (or Ray Porter or Scott Brick).

US intelligence is reporting turmoil in the Russian navy. Their deadliest submarine, the Belgorod, has unexpectedly launched, and taken along with it a long list of questions. Who authorized the departure? What mission is it on? And, most disturbing of all, what weapons do the giant doors on the sub’s bow hide? It's been four decades since a similar incident with the Soviet sub, Red October, ended happily, thanks to a young CIA analyst named Jack Ryan.
