Audible recommended this book to me as I listen to a lot of autobiographies. I have to say, there are parts of this book that I am still laughing about..."Trick, I don't want no friends right now." I am convinced there is no other way to consume this book then listening to Issa tell her own story. I admit that this book led me to binge watching her show, Insecure on HBOGo. (Just going to plug in, you need to watch her television show too. GOLD)

There was so much about her story that was relatable to any woman, especially if you grew up in the 90's. Her confidence comes through with who she was and is, which I appreciate. She also doesn't shy away from the confusing, fun, and yes, sometimes awkward pains of growing up and figuring life out for yourself. She opens up about some of the struggles within her family, which I found refreshing and brave.

Issa is very candid about her experience as an Awkward Black Girl, as a woman who doesn't quite fit the mold, but very much loves being black and who she is. I love that is pushing for a change in how black people are represented in the media.

I didn’t really know what to expect out of Whitney Cummings in this book. Yet, I was still surprised when she actually inspired me to look into my own life and emotional baggage. At times her own emotional revelations felt like she was exposing me of mine. It was uncomfortable at first, but the more I thought about it, the more freedom I found in her insights.

The tone of the book is kind of contradictory. She speaks of emotional freedom and letting go, but majority of the book is self deprecating. At first, it was funny, but then as she revealed more of her story, the self deprecation was painfully sad. I do hope she has grown and found love and acceptance for herself.

It is very clear from this book Whitney has a very big heart and a lot to offer the world. So glad she wrote the book and hope there is another one in the future!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Most definitely, I would recommend this book to a friend. I would recommend it to someone like myself, who has read the entire series many times over or someone who was being introduced to Anne for the very first time. Rachel McAdams does such a wonderful job giving a voice to the story and bringing it to life.

Which character – as performed by Rachel McAdams – was your favorite?

As the headline implies, Rachel McAdams gave Anne Shirley the perfect voice. She nailed the essence of each character truth be told.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

SPOILER ALERT! This book is always an emotional one for me, as Anne is an emotional character. Her adventurous spirit and knack for mischief always makes me laugh and...of course when Matthew dies, I feel miserable.

Any additional comments?

I sincerely hope that Rachel McAdams will delight Anne Shirley fans even further by narrating the rest of the series. Big undertaking, I know, but she was so perfect. It was such a treat sharing this book with my own little daughter on a long road trip home for Thanksgiving. McAdams' performance made every mile worth it.

As many have pointed out, Teresa's narration is not that of a professional voice actor. With that said, I wouldn't have wanted to hear this book any other way. It means more being read by her and added to the entertainment.

There is more depth to Teresa than people give her credit for. Sure, she was able to carefully select her words for this book and present what she wanted, but you can tell she has grown. Who could spend almost a year in prison and not?

I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know her life more and hope she writes and narrates another autobiography.
