Story
Daniel had the most incredible career imaginable; he was transported as a teenage captive to a pagan empire and became the primary confidante to the ruler of Babylon. When Babylonia was taken over by its enemies, he rose to the second or third position in the Persian Empire. There are only two people in the Bible other than Jesus Christ of which no evil is spoken, Joseph and Daniel.

Published in 1871, The Training of the Twelve is an ambitious biography and classic study of Jesus' selection and training of his apostles. A chapter is dedicated to each of the 12 (Bruce includes sound arguments on the identity of the three unnamed apostles) in which the different traits and circumstances of each apostle is discussed.

It was written at a grade level so high it was virtually useless. It seemed every third word required defining. A more careful word selection could make this work invaluable.

The final chapter about how to share your faith was excellent. But the implications that all who are saved will be disciples is unrealistic. not all will be saved, and fewer still will become disciples.
