Story
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains. But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend. The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow. Because after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

Not my favorite book in the series but still stays true to the others. Things are starting to drag out a bit and the story could be a little more streamlined.

Disappointed given the reviews

I really wanted to like this book but I just couldn't. The only reason I finished was because I didn't want to waste a credit on it. I have no idea why there's so many 5 star reviews and recommendations. The story was not very well written and the characters were borderline unlikeable. The main character was just SO BORING (I know that's the point but ugh) and had barely any redeemable qualities. He was praised the whole book for no other reason than others just saw something in him because he treated them nicely? The romance had no explanation besides them both being gay they just slightly glanced at each other the whole book. The narration was quite honestly cringe along with the redemption arc. Whoever said that the whole book was just someone in the shower thinking of witty retorts to mean things people said to him years ago was spot on. I understand the purpose of this book and there's a lot of basic lessons for children about acceptance of others and not judging a book by its cover but they laid it on way too thick and not in a "feel good" way. I probably could have told you every single event that happens in this book after reading the first chapter. Two stars because I felt guilty giving 1 but it deserves a 1.

Story
Some say that to change the world you must first burn it down. Now that belief will be tested in the crucible of revolution: The Breakers and Burners have seized the levers of power, the smoke of riots has replaced the smog of industry, and all must submit to the wisdom of crowds. With nothing left to lose, Citizen Brock is determined to become a new hero for the new age, while Citizeness Savine must turn her talents from profit to survival before she can claw her way to redemption.

Fantastic book and series. I liked it much more than the first trilogy. The characters were well developed, I enjoyed the strong female leads and the story was very enjoyable.

Favorite of the series

I've read a ridiculous amount of fantasy and was unconvinced of this series after the first trilogy. I reluctantly started the second trio because I had nothing else lined up and I'm definitely glad I did! The character development was the only thing I really enjoyed from the first book, loving to hate the terrible people in this world, and Abercrombie outdid himself with this new generation. Cunning, ruthless, selfish, cut-throat. It does not pay to be kind in Abercrombie 's world, but we'll see where it leads in the next book. The narration is fantastic!

Story
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Enjoyable book but not much happened overall. I understand it's an introduction to characters and the world but after someone asked me what the book was about and I had to struggle for an answer it was clear that not much really went on. I did enjoy the in-depth character development and the world building aspect. I'm excited for the world to be expanded upon in the next book. The narration was fantastic.

Story
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

I've listened to a few different versions of The Hobbit in my day and I can't recommend this version enough. Serkis does a wonderful job voicing these classic characters and his Smaug was even better than Cumberbatch's version. When Smaug started his brooding I actually yelped in delight! Just excellent! 👏👏👏
