Story
In one second, my life disappeared. My past. My memories. My future. The only certainty I have from the last three years is that my older brother is dead and that I am the only eyewitness. In order to protect the case, the lawyers demand no one give me any information about my life...I must remember on my own. My only help comes from my brother’s best friend and world-renowned investigative reporter Spencer Cross. He has no idea how many nights I’ve spent dreaming of his name—and his body—next to mine. Each day we spend together, I find it harder to want my old life back.

Story
They call me Zen-man, the cool-headed one, the protector. I keep an eye out for everyone, take them in, find them homes. They think I’m the calm and collected one, the self-assured one, the one who knows the way. They think they see me. They think they know me. But they’re all wrong, because inside I’m broken. I have a jagged hole in my soul I can’t fix, a festering blackness. I’ve been to the pits of hell, and nobody comes back unscathed. Life in foster care fucked me up, and now a thread is all that’s holding me together.

I grew up logical. No fairy tales, no romantic notions, no expectations. Life is unfair. I knew this. I bled it. Lived it. But the damage…that was unexpected. Because it was all a lie. Every moment, every story, every ideal I held onto, was a lie.

I enjoyed this whole series, however I am quite disappointed at the ending. This book leaves us on a cliffhanger and no next book. This book was written in 2013 so it seems safe to assume we are not getting the next or finale book to the series.

Great ending to the Annika Brisby story
Reviewed: 08-29-22
Good Read. I will say that you obviously need to read the previous books in the Annika Brisby series, but you should also read the Navi Navarro Chronicles Series books 1-2.
While this book does close up quite a few loose ends for Annika and Talvi. I will say that I do wish they had more page time together. I know this is the last book for them, but I would love another book where they are together for all of it. It sucks that they haven't had a full book together since book one. :(
I do want to say that even though this books is great and well written, there is forced sexual acts.
This book leaves us where The Darkest Dream leaves off. Annika and Talvi traveling to give the news that Prince Dillon is still alive and in prison. Once the news of Prince Dillion is delivered they are again separated, Talvi to retrieve the prince and Annika is kept at the castle as incentive to return.
I liked the relationship between Navi and Annika, I loved how it was instant. I also liked that we got to see more of Prince Fallon and Navi's relationship. Prince Triston is again smudging the story and I can say that I like him even less in this book than I did the other series.
There are some twists and turns and places that leave you wondering why or what is going on. We keep wondering if/when Talvi will return.
The book was a good end to the series, with enough left open that we could get more in the future. I can see them showing up if we get more from the Navi Navarro Series or another spin off from there. I would love to see more of all of them.
I read/listened to the audiobook of this and I have to say it was great just like the previous ones. Nick Cracknell is amazing. I love how when Annika is singing we get to hear music in the background as well as a singer singing. Amazing. I am very happy I read this book.

Enjoyed the story narrator was ok
Reviewed: 07-14-22
I read this book via Kindle first and I loved it. I wanted the audiobook so I could make sure I was perouncing the name correctly. I grabed the audiobook when I first saw it. I was apprehensive about the new female reader. She was an ok narrator my major issues didn't come until Jenny was talking to one of our other dragon riders and all of a sudden this character wasn't prouncing her mate's name nor her daughters name correctly. it took away from the story for me which is why the 4 stars and not the 5. Overall though it was a good listen.
