Publisher's summary

I grew up logical. No fairy tales, no romantic notions, no expectations.

Life is unfair. I knew this. I bled it. Lived it.

But the damage…that was unexpected. Because it was all a lie.

Every moment, every story, every ideal I held onto, was a lie.

Somewhere, somehow the lie exploded and now, now my reality is far more grim than logic.

It’s an expanse of color filled reality, heartbreaking loss, spine chilling emotions imprinted into the psyche I didn’t ask for. I didn’t ask for any of this. I wanted a peaceful life. But that was bulldozed the second she went missing and he showed up on my front porch. The moment fiction and reality blurred their lines in my mind.

Can I run from the truth? Can I escape the fear of becoming a monster? Or will I give into the desires I underestimated?

The only thing I truly know is…if I’m not careful…I know I’ll Byrne.

The Lies We Tell is a Modern Day Fantasy, with Magical Realism, Spice, and does contain a Content Warning.

Gripping

The story itself is gripping and the characters are amazing. The narrator’s are absolutely amazing! Very explicit detail of a sexual nature! Lord it!

Great listen.

I waited till I had finished my second listen to this book before writing a review. The narration for this book is excellent. The story kept my interest and I want to listen to the next book. Hopefully, they will use the same narrators for it. Honestly, I probably would not have read this type of book, but Ashlee Nicole Davis' voice in the sample drew me in, and I would have missed a gem of a book.

Well crafted and beautifully narrated

This novel had a nice slow build with twists and turns to engage the reader. The story was well done and brought beautifully to life with the fantastic narration, especially the main character narration which was gripping and alluring keeping me coming back chapter after chapter to hear what happens next! Kudos to all the narrators especially Ashlee Nicole Davis as the lead!

Irritating FMC

FMC reads as a high school junior, not a college junior. Very bratty, stubborn, short-sighted, and immature. Overall, the narration was pretty good, but the FMC nearly ruined this book for me.

Amazing

I loved reading this book, but the audiobook, brings a whole different life to it. I loved that there was more than 1 narrator and how the narration was done. I can't wait to re-listen to it again soon!

So. Freaking. Good!

It took a moment to get used to the unique style of putting 3 narrators together in a single scene, but once my brain synced, there was no looking back.

The main narrator, the voice of Lexi, had so much depth and emotion in her performance, not only as the main character but also as every other female in the story. She had a distinct voice for each, capturing each emotion with seeming ease.

The male narrators did a wonderful job as well. The interactions between the three were natural despite the fact they probably have never met.

As for the story, it was my kind of modern fantasy. The stakes are high, the characters are flawed (and good lord, I wanted to strangle a certain man from time to time!), and the narrative moved easily. I cannot wait to get my hands on books two! (And hopefully the audio too!) this is definitely a book I want to add to my physical library ASAP.
