Less Skippy, but solid story.

I may be a bit crazy but every time Craig Alanson puts out a new book in this series, I listen to the ENTIRE series again just to refresh my memory and to pick up the new book right in line with the whole series. In the entire series, there are a few books that are not nearly as good as book 2, or the experience of wanting to put Book #1 down because it was just meh. And then your world changes. So enjoy the story and enjoy how broad it is. As I am now on my 17th reading of the whole series, I still text my Expeditionary Force friends skippy quotes whenever I can. Let's go with that.

Story
Roshar is a world of stone and storms. Uncanny tempests of incredible power sweep across the rocky terrain so frequently that they have shaped ecology and civilization alike. Animals hide in shells, trees pull in branches, and grass retracts into the soilless ground. Cities are built only where the topography offers shelter. It has been centuries since the fall of the 10 consecrated orders known as the Knights Radiant, but their Shardblades and Shardplate remain: mystical swords and suits of armor.

I listen to this whole series every year. This book is fantastic. I will say this. I feel the narration is a bit slow. So I always bump the speed up to 1.2 when I listen. For me it really helps. I am a regular Brandon Sanderson listener and this book is his masterpiece. If you do not want to be hooked by an author and series do not listen. Otherwise enjoy. You will never regret purchasing this book.

The problem with lying about having a super weapon is that the bad guys might believe they have nothing to lose by doing something stupid that both sides will regret. Or, they might just call your bluff. Either way, the Merry Band of Pirates need a plan to deal with the Fallout.

Sorry, this was an attempt at turning Voyager into a soap opera. Very little sci-fi and a lot of relationship stuff. Could not finish the book. Just not true to Star Trek. I would love to hear unabridged Star Trek, just not one that spends most it's time on who is in a relationship with who.

The Annurian Empire is disintegrating. The advantages it used for millennia have fallen to ruin. The ranks of the Kettral have been decimated from within, and the kenta gates, granting instantaneous travel across the vast lands of the empire, can no longer be used. In order to save the empire, one of the surviving Kettral must voyage beyond the edge of the known world through a land that warps and poisons all living things to find the nesting ground of the giant war hawks. Meanwhile, a monk turned con-artist may hold the secret to the kenta gates.

Story
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Ok, so I guess there is another author who can take my money any time they want! The only critic I would add is that there were some parts in the end that I started skipping over the science parts because it was long and I HAD to know what happened. I will go back and listen to the science later. If you listen you will understand. This book sucked me in and would not let go. I lost sleep, work, and family time over the 4th of July weekend because I would not stop listening. I think you get the point. GREAT BOOK.

If you enjoy Ben Hale you will enjoy this series. This will be a series that I will purchase as soon as available. So if Ben is listening... keep it going and take my money.

Story
We were fighting on the wrong side of a war we couldn't win. And that was the good news. The Ruhar hit us on Columbus Day. There we were, innocently drifting along the cosmos on our little blue marble, like the native Americans in 1492. Over the horizon come ships of a technologically advanced, aggressive culture, and BAM! There go the good old days, when humans only got killed by each other. So, Columbus Day. It fits. When the morning sky twinkled again, this time with Kristang starships jumping in to hammer the Ruhar, we thought we were saved.

Ok, I will say one thing. I just about put this book down to give it one star, never to pick it up again. Then Skippy showed up. This is now one of my favorite series. I often go back to these books and listen to the whole series again and again. Craig Alanson now has a key to my wallet, all he has to do is release a book and he gets my money. He is one of two authors that have that key. Brandon Sanderson is the other. The Authors are very different but They are my two favorite at this time.

Story
Stephen Leeds is perfectly sane. It's his hallucinations who are mad. A genius of unrivaled aptitude, Stephen can learn any new skill, vocation, or art in a matter of hours. However, to contain all of this, his mind creates hallucinatory people - Stephen calls them aspects - to hold and manifest the information. Wherever he goes, he is joined by a team of imaginary experts to give advice, interpretation, and explanation. He uses them to solve problems...for a price. Then a company hires him to recover stolen property - a camera that can allegedly take pictures of the past....

Brandon Sanderson, Always High Quality
Reviewed: 07-13-20
This is a very interesting concept. And well-executed story. If you like Brandon Sanderson's work you will like this and it will be a credit well spent. If you don't know anything about Brandon's work, this is not a bad starting point but I would point you also to The Way of Kings. This was a fun book, Once I started I really did not want to stop listening. The Narration was excellent and did not leave me wondering what character was speaking as often happens in some audible books. As always, Brandon Sanderson has a key to my bank account. Anytime a new book is announced I purchase it, end of story... Well, I hope not. I hope Brandon has been locked away and has been busy kicking out the next book I will buy from him.
