Story
After catching her fiancé cheating - with another man - usually straitlaced, workaholic scientist Ellie Fisher liberates her wild side just long enough to indulge in a passionate one-night stand with a tall, dark stranger she meets at a trendy Miami bar. A really excellent romance story perfectly performed. So delightful to have a gutsy heroine who also has her endearing weak points. The hero, is really that in all ways and believable.
I’ve listened to this story multiple times and never got tired of it.

Story
Hidden away in rural Devonshire, Phyllida Satterthwaite has always been considered more odd than beautiful. But in London, her oddity has made her a sensation. Far worse, it’s caught the eye of the sinister Duke of Moreland - a notorious art collector obsessed with acquiring one-of-a-kind treasures. To escape the duke’s clutches, she’s going to need a little help. Captain Arthur Heywood’s days of heroism are long past. Grievously injured in the Peninsular War, he can no longer walk unaided, let alone shoot a pistol. What use can he possibly be to a damsel in distress?

A most delightful read
Reviewed: 01-01-23
We are given a wonderfully told tale without the annoying parts of people we like making bad choices. A great pleasure to read of a hero and heroine with character, integrity and charm.
I appreciate a romance that doesn’t have to describe every part of how a couple cares for each other. And I appreciate a story that doesn’t have to take us into pits of excessive violence. The story is compelling based on good writing alone without cheap tricks to keep our attention.

I have been waiting for the next Blessings book and as ever this was a delight. It released yesterday and I couldn’t put it down. Finished it this morning.
And I expect to reread and savor it again in a while.
The day before while helping at the food bank it crossed my mind that I was involved in the kind of activity that might appear in one of these Blessings episodes and I wasn’t far from right. Lovely visions of what making compassionate choices looks like and the stellar results are in this series.
And having Amy Rubinate narrate is just perfect.

Story
She wanted sanctuary... Helena Reynolds will do anything to escape her life in London, even if that means traveling to a remote cliffside estate on the North Devon coast and marrying a complete stranger. But Greyfriar's Abbey isn't the sort of refuge she imagined. And ex-army captain Justin Thornhill - though he may be tall, dark, and devastatingly handsome - is anything but a romantic hero. He needed redemption... Justin has spent the last two decades making his fortune, settling scores, and suffering a prolonged period of torture in an Indian prison.

This series in Blessings by Sharon Sala is my current absolute favorite. These stories reflect joy coming out of tragedy as well as what makes a good and a bad choice.
I especially appreciate the themes of forgiveness and our potential to change and grow as part of living and loving well.
Amy Rubinate is an exceptionally talented narrator and she brings out deep angles and aspects of the fine writing here.
This book was just released on July 24 and I’ve already read it/listen to it all.
Now I’m just waiting to meet Janey Chapman from Blessings, as was hinted at the end of this story.
