Little creativity in description. Simple and predictable plot with no real believability for motivation of characters. Drawn out and boring.

It was hard to tell characters apart because of the narration. The story did not engage me right away but I ended up enjoying the read and would recommend this book for light, casual distraction.

well developed characters, true to life

I really felt the characters as if they were people I knew. I loved the author's candid observations about humanity and relationships. I learned a bit about Korean culture (from this and the book Pachinko).
I recommended this book to friends several times.

Story
The first time Eby Pim saw Lost Lake, it was on a picture postcard. Just an old photo and a few words on a small square of heavy stock, but when she saw it, she knew she was seeing her future. That was half a lifetime ago. Now Lost Lake is about to slip into Eby’s past. Her husband, George, is long passed. Most of her demanding extended family are gone.

Characters failed to interest me

I am a frequent Addison Allen reader. This was a good fix but didn't grab me and suck me into the read like some of her other books have. I was still entertained.

Story
The Waverleys have always been a curious family, endowed with peculiar gifts that make them outsiders even in their hometown of Bascom, North Carolina. Even their garden has a reputation, famous for its feisty apple tree that bears prophetic fruit, and its edible flowers, imbued with special powers.
Generations of Waverleys tended this garden. Their history was in the soil. But so were their futures.
Together again in the house they grew up in, the Waverley sisters realize they must deal with their common legacy - if they are ever to feel at home in Bascom - or with each other.

I got caught up in the charm and magic of this book. A lot of focus on interpersonal relationships. The characters felt real and familiar to me. This was a pleasant, easy read.
