Story
Aleksey doesn't like helpful sayings. He particularly doesn't like Ben Rider-Mikkelsen pointing out that paranoid men can't see the wood for the trees. There's a truth to these wise words, however, that applies directly to him when you're paranoid that everyone is out to kill you, those who actually are can be easily overlooked. But for once, Aleksey ignores his instincts that something is threatening the family.

More Heat Than the Sun LIGHT
Reviewed: 10-22-24
After listening to John Wiltshire's More Heat Than the Sun series this comes off as average fanfic. Having the same narrator for both series certainly doesn't help. At some points I had to double check she hadn't tried to write her own spin off series or something.
MHTS is gritty and tough. You believe the characters motivations behind how they behave towards one another. something this author doesn't quite achieve. For me it fell flat. The BDSM and kink aspect doesn't quite work because the characters don't read broken enough (not saying you have to be broken to enjoy BDSM).
I might have enjoyed it a little more if I'd listened to this one first.
if you enjoyed this but would like to try something far grittier, try John Wiltshire's series. It's better written and far more intense.

Formulaic but fun
Reviewed: 08-19-23
If, like me, you are a huge fan of Alice you will notice that her formula is pretty set. And here is yet another example of crazy character meets sensible character trope. That said her audio books never fail to amuse (huge props to Greg here). Her quirky, reckless, but loveable characters are interesting and just different enough to keep her fans listening.
Can't wait for book 2.

Story
Ben and Nikolas know that if they were to compare recollections of their life together, they’d remember things very differently. Ben never asks about their time together in the Department because he doesn’t want to hear Nikolas lie. Nikolas never talks about those early years because he can’t afford for Ben to know the truth. For the first time, since their strange meeting in Whitehall 14 years ago, Ben is forced to rethink his claim that nothing Nikolas could ever do would make him stop loving him.

Story
In a strange little home built into the branches of a grove of trees live three robots – fatherly inventor android Giovanni Lawson, a pleasantly sadistic nurse machine, and a small vacuum desperate for love and attention. Victor Lawson, a human, lives there too. They’re a family, hidden and safe. The day Vic salvages and repairs an unfamiliar android labelled ‘HAP’, he learns of a shared dark past between Hap and Gio – a past spent hunting humans. When Hap unwittingly alerts robots from Gio’s former life to their whereabouts, the family is no longer hidden and safe.

uugh. Epic beautifully written love story as per usual. No smut (well tangential smut 😉) and full on character development. Cried multiple times. Such a beautifully written AI/Dystopian M&M romance. TJ doesn't stick to tropes. Their stories are full of fleshed out characters and interesting story arcs.
In the Lives of Puppets is no exception.
The robot voices are brought to life by the narrator and you can hear the consideration that has been taken to match the voice to the character. While I found some grating to listen to it actually compliments the character and enhanced the narrative.
Buy it. Buy it now 👍

Story
When I lost my partner of eight years, I felt like my world was crashing down around me. In order to feel some relief from the overwhelming emptiness, I’ve found myself sending him texts every year on his birthday, even though I know he will never answer. That is, until someone responds to my text. Jace is charming, sweet, and everything I could ever want. But how can I accept someone new in my life when Daniel’s only been gone two years? Even so, Jace rewrites my entire world with every word and smile he gives me, and it’s becoming harder to not give in and hand him my heart.

F-u! You made me ugly cry!
Reviewed: 09-08-22
Uugh. I love Alice Winters. Her love stories are always believable and natural. This one is such a lovely story. I wish it was a full length novel.
But the start and end made me ugly cry.
I think there was a sex scene? But honestly I just don't care because this is one of those stories where you can actually feel the characters fall in love and it's not forced.
Very rarely do I award a perfect 5 but this was worth it.
Ferraiuolo does a wonderful job as usual.
