Either follow the myth or don’t
Reviewed: 12-14-21
The author picks and chooses which part of the myth she follows which is frustrating. It’s marketed as a book about feminism but there is nothing feminist about this book or the characters.
There is a lot forced emotional conflict and a lot of the time the book fell flat. There were instances that didn’t require detail that got whole pages (like descriptions of the weather or the scenery) while there are more important themes or situations that were so vague and hardly received a sentence.

London banking heiress Hattie Greenfield wanted just three things in life: acclaim as an artist, a noble cause, marriage to a young lord who puts the gentle in gentleman. Why, then, does this Oxford scholar find herself at the altar with the darkly attractive financier Lucian Blackstone, whose murky past and ruthless business practices strike fear into the hearts of Britain's peerage? Trust Hattie to take an invigorating little adventure too far. Now she's stuck with a churlish Scot who just might be the end of her ambitions...

Worst of the series
Reviewed: 12-14-21
This is the 3rd book in the series and officially the worst. The protagonist is wholly unlikeable, she’s whiny, needy and completely ungrateful. The previous books had strong and stubborn female characters that were hard to please - Hattie takes it to another level of just being impossible and confusing and plain dumb for lack of a better term.
Lucian is a typical grump like most male counterparts in this series but he tries and is likeable.
The performance was great, the narrator had the ability to shift the accent and infliction in her voice to fit whoever is speaking - she is entertaining and the only reason i was captivated enough to finish this book.

Not realistic advice
Reviewed: 11-08-21
This book has some good nuggets but man, it’s not realistic. Some of the tools for women are useful - be confident, have high standards, if someone doesn’t want you - you don’t want them either, simple.
The other advice is just… antiquated. Dress up for your man often, wear makeup to the store, wear a little makeup at home, give him sex when he wants it if not he’ll get it from somewhere else. Just, not good advice.

Truly Boring and overly detailed
Reviewed: 10-02-19
I've never listened to a book that said SO MUCH and nothing at all at the same time. I read a review below somewhere that pointed out something similar. There's A LOT of detail and so many adjectives mushed together in places that sometimes don't make a lot of sense. The author is very poetic, she uses amazing words HOWEVER, for a novel like this, it didn't quite fit.
I completed about 4 hours but could not bring myself to finish the remaining 5. The details are overwhelming to the point of annoyance - I was thinking "okaaaay... get to the point already." I don't mind detail or the author painting a picture for me - but this was almost intolerable.
The narrator was not terrible, but, very monotone at times.

Steve Harvey can't count the number of impressive women he's met over the years - the many incredible women who can run a business, have three kids, maintain a household in tiptop shape, and chair a church group all at the same time. So when it comes to relationships, why can't these same women figure out what makes men commit? According to Steve, it's because they're asking other women for advice when they should be going directly to the source.

** This book is more geared toward Christian and Traditional women, so if you are not, definitely give this a skip. BUT - if you are a woman who's a little more Christian and Traditional - you need to read this. **
He gives SUCH good advice and it's not all about what we're doing wrong, he doesn't point the finger at us women but really, HONESTLY breaks down flaws both us and men tend to have in relationships. This whole book is exactly what the title is, he lets us know exactly how men think about all aspects of life and relationships. Some chapters go into how men are hardwired to think and be certain ways, which is SO helpful in understanding your partner. He doesn't hold back on sensitive topics such as money or intimacy.
This is the modern-day "Men are from Mars women are from Venus" but a lot more interesting!
I used a lot of his tactics in my relationship and have seen a lot of improvement. No joke. Within this book, he gives a lot of respect and consideration towards women, using some chapters to reiterate how amazing WE are. 10/10 would recommend and re-listen.
Also, the narrator has a velvety and soothing voice which is great - I actually thought it was Steve Harvey at first.

Overall this book was... sweet, kinda, but really immature. This should be in the Young Adult section. I tried to finish it but i honestly couldn’t because it was just way too much. Not realistic - i know books are an escape but this was just... a lot. I’m a lover of romance and i liked some pieces and points to it, but it just got overplayed very quickly.
This guy is OBSESSED with the main character and it’s cute at first but then it consumes him and becomes his whole identity - which is really incredibly high-school like some reviews below say. His obsession is down-right annoying.
The performance was alright - i gave 4 stars because she changed her voice for the male characters and it wasn’t forced or weird. She has a really raspy voice, so I’d keep that in mind if you’re fickle with voices.
The story was again, alright, nothing of real substance everything is really odd and “out there” even for a non-fiction book. I didn’t finish and ended up returning it.

!! *** First off, this book details abuse in a romantic relationship (and touches on child abuse) - if this is something you've experienced or you're sensitive towards, I recommend you don't listen *** !!
So insightful, it gives a look into the mind of the abuser - how they think and how they rationalize their actions. It's got a little taste of that "rich kids in high-school" setting. Very little "dirty" moments - the scenes that may be deemed "dirty" have very little details (I'd rate it PG-13.) There is a moderate touch of romance, how he thinks of this girl, the things he says, etc. but it's easily displaced with his actions. There is wonderful character development and the book is so well-balanced - touching on his past and re-focusing the listener on his present. It never gets boring.
Also, Jon Cryer's voice is just perfect - his tone, pronunciation, make the book really easy to listen to and not at all boring. I really wish he narrated more books.

Do not purchase if you listen while driving
Reviewed: 07-12-18
First and foremost - ** it suggests you purchase a notebook or binder book to take notes, etc. so, if this is not your kinda thing, DO NOT GET THIS BOOK!!!!!
This book is alright, it houses A LOT of information. I usually listen at work or while driving so this was irritating as I'd be absorbed in the book and hear "now take out your notebook and write...." and I'd have to pause it and pick it back up and try again. Which was hard, cause I usually like an "easy listening" kinda book that takes me away, and I get lost in the story and I don't realize x amount of hours have passed.
I got through about 5 hours of this book before deciding to return it as I feel it is just TOO much to take in audible form, I felt like it was a chore at some points. I really wanted to learn and listen, but it was just A LOT and it wasn't easily broken down in bite-sized easily understood pieces. I will instead try picking up another book of the same realm for easier reading, highlighting and concentration.
It's also important to mention that this book has some information I could NOT find online, a lot of things were either mis-matched (moons + months, for example) or, completely different. So I'm not sure if things have changed since the writing of this book or the author just does things a certain way. But, a lot of things were the same throughout some websites BUT differed from this book. So, that's another thing to keep in mind. The performance was great, but I would not be repurchasing another book from this author and I will not be finishing this one.

Great information! A perfect starting point
Reviewed: 06-22-18
Alright, so I'm not done with the book yet but I felt like I needed to put in a review - reading the reviews before purchasing almost swayed my choice. Here are a fee of the things I've noticed so far and I am interested and do plan on continuing and possibly listening to the rest by this author.
Narration: If you're picky about your narrators I would definitely give this a sample listen before purchasing. Her voice is a bit grainy and monotone - she's not the worst but also not the best.(*If you've ever heard Doreen Virtue read... it's kinda like that but actually a bit better.) Her enunciation is not on point either. However, she is a pretty clear speaker and has a good tempo. Not too fast, not too slow. (Looking at the positives here!)
Information: This book is FULL of information for anyone that is eager to practice or just curious, there is a lot of details about origination, and it is very beginner friendly, everything is broken down into process-able pieces for the mind. It's full of good stuff to get your started.
I would definitely recommend this book to someone who is okay with monotone narration, someone who is interested/intrigued by wicca/witchcraft and looking to possibly begin practicing. It's a very good "square 1."

Interesting and also not

So, without any spoilers...
It is full of adventure, a very smalllllll, tiny dash of romance, but most of all it had a lot of stereotypical “damsel in distress that’s too stubborn to be saved but ends up beating all odds” feel which may be “feel good” to some readers. The main character is predictable although the story itself has a few twists. It kept my hold for about 7 hours but with 2 hours remaining the narrator along with the storyline just didn’t hold me anymore - i knew what was going to happen and googled it just to confirm.
Detailed book / cons and pros: book is full of details, which may either paint a picture for you, or may confuse you a little bit down the road if you weren’t paying full attention. I wouldn’t select this book to listen to if you’re someone who wants an “easy listen” you really need to pay attention. I had to start the first 3 chapters over again after just having listened to them because i missed so much.
Names and places / cons and pros: The places in the book and the names of the characters can be difficult to remember, so keep that in mind. I personally don’t mind it but me not minding it even gave me a bit of a headache and a “what/who is that?” At times. But if your mind is sharp and you like the extra attention to detail it does add layers to the story.
Narrator - the narrator had a distinct “static” sound behind her. Her accents changed per character but sometimes she’d slip and create a new accent or didn’t hold it for long enough so it was somewhat difficult to keep tabs on who she was speaking as during some parts. Her voice even went into a different tone at times and that was confusing, almost sounding like a child. There are few times were she mispronounces a word she had just pronounced correctly. To be fair the book has a lot of “foreign” sounding names and places. But for instance she would refer to one character as “Jenny” and next it’d sound like “Ginny” so, if you’re picky maybe pass on this book or try to get through it. It doesn’t happen often but it happens. Also at the beginning of some chapters you hear a slight throat clearing.
Finally - In my opinion, the book is just fine i will not continue the series. It started getting dull and repetitive towards the end.
